Job Description

Steel Equipment Specialists is a leading player in the steel equipment manufacturing and engineering industry, committed to delivering top-quality products and services to our clients. With a strong dedication to safety, innovation, and customer satisfaction, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) CNC Machinist to join our team. Position OverviewThe Horizontal Boring Mill CNC Machinist is capable of producing highly detailed and accurate machined parts to propel our production potential even further. The ideal candidate will have both manual and CNC experience with horizontal boring milling machines and be familiar with CNC conversational programming language.
Machinist Job Responsibilities:
Operates and maintains horizontal boring milling machines and lathes with heavy/large equipment/partsOperates with knowledge and experience of conversational CNC programmingReviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate productionTakes precise measurements for cutting or shapingSelects appropriate machine and settings for a given taskPlans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignmentMonitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessaryMaintains inventory of completed productsInitiates/ remote crane operationChecks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defectsIdentifies the need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairsWelding and/or mechanical experience a plusMaintains a safe and clean workstationContributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as neededForklift operation a plus/ often needed
Machinist Qualifications/Skills:
Excellent coordination and mechanical skillsStrong attention to detail, accuracy, and safetySolid written and verbal communication skillsProficient in mathBasic computer skillsConversational CNC programming experienceAbility to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
High school degree or equivalentExperience working with machine tools or mechanical assemblyWorking knowledge of safety protocolsApprenticeship or vocational training preferred The Horizontal Boring Mill Operator must be capable of the following:

Place slings and/or chains onto hook block for loading and unloading parts. Chains can weigh up to 50 lbs.

Climb or step up onto mill table for the following activities:

Removing chainsSecuring part to tableSet and read dial indicatorSecuring part to table by tightening with wrench. Apply sufficient torque to ensure the load does not move while machining.

Lifting and installing cutting tools into spindle. Tooling can weigh up to 20 lbs.

Standing at the machine for 6-8 hours per day.

Vision sufficient to read handheld micrometers and dial indicators.
