Competitive, based on experience About the Opportunity We are an established machine job shop under new ownership looking for an experienced CNC machinist with strong Haas mill setup and operating experience. This is a hands-on position for someone who can take a drawing and a piece of material and produce a finished part with minimal supervision. Our work consists primarily of one-off and short-run jobs, so we need someone who understands that every setup matters and mistakes can be costly. We are not looking for a machine operator. We need a machinist who understands the entire process - setup, tooling, offsets, work holding, materials, inspection, and troubleshooting. If you work at a company and follow their setup sheet and now you think you are a machinist, this IS NOT the position for you. You must be comfortable figuring out jobs, making sound machining decisions, and working independently. We value common sense, attention to detail, accountability, dependability, and pride in your work. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of both their work and the equipment they operate. For the right person, there is significant opportunity for advancement, increased responsibility, and potentially taking over day-to-day shop operations as the owner moves toward retirement over the next 5-8 years. • Set up and operate Haas CNC mills and lathes
• Take jobs from drawing through finished part with minimal supervision
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling, offsets, workholding, and jaw boring as needed
• Machine one-off and short-run parts
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, tolerances, and job instructions
• Select appropriate tooling, including HSS, carbide, insert styles, and grades
• Set work and tool offsets, safely back them off, and dial in dimensions
• Make minor program edits and optimize programs at the machine when necessary
• Inspect your own work using precision measuring equipment
• Double-check setups before cutting and catch potential problems before they become expensive mistakes
• Maintain tight tolerances and consistently produce quality parts
• Perform routine machine maintenance and protect equipment through proper operation
• Keep machines and work areas clean, organized, and safe What We're Looking For
• 5+ years of real, hands-on CNC machining experience, preferably in a job shop environment
• Strong Haas CNC mill setup and operating experience
• Ability to independently set up a job - not simply operate from an established setup
• Ability to make program edits and adjust tool offsets at the machine
• Strong understanding of machining practices, tooling, feeds and speeds, workholding, and tolerances
• Ability to read blueprints and accurately inspect finished work using precision measuring tools
• Ability to troubleshoot and make good decisions when a job doesn't go exactly as planned
• Self-motivated and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
• Takes ownership of their work, mistakes, and equipment
