Job Title:
CNC Setup Machinist Shift:
1st (7am - 3:30pm)Pay:
$30/hr to $35/hr Job Description This role focuses on performing full setups and basic programming on CNC lathes in a job shop environment, working primarily with short-run orders and tight tolerances. You will interpret blueprints, set up and run CNC lathes with live tooling, edit G and M code at the machine, and perform your own quality inspections to ensure every part meets precise specifications. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes, including Doosan and Mori Seiki machines equipped with bar feeders and single turret subspindles with live tooling. Perform full machine setups in a job shop environment, typically handling orders of approximately 10-50 parts per job. Use Fanuc controls to perform basic programming, including live tooling programming directly at the machine. Interpret engineering prints and blueprints, then translate them into efficient machine setups and programs. Edit and adjust G and M codes at the machine to optimize performance, correct issues, and accommodate design changes. Perform offline programming at the machine as needed to support production requirements. Ensure tools are cutting correctly, making tool offsets and tool changes when necessary to maintain quality and productivity. Continuously monitor machine operations and part quality, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and offsets as required. Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other hand and power tools. Work to tolerances as tight as 0.002 inches, verifying that all parts meet dimensional and quality specifications. Document and communicate any issues related to tooling, programming, or quality to support continuous improvement. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all shop procedures and best practices. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience performing full CNC lathe setups and basic programming, including live edits and understanding of program code. Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes, specifically with Doosan and Mori Seiki equipment or similar machines. Strong working knowledge of Fanuc controls, including the ability to program and edit at the machine. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately. Demonstrated experience working with tolerances down to 0.002 inches. Ability to perform complete in-process quality inspections on your own work. Ownership and proficient use of personal precision measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers. Ability to read, understand, and edit G and M codes. Competence in using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other hand and power tools for measurement and inspection. Understanding of machining quality standards, tolerances, and inspection practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with full offline programming at the machine is a plus. Familiarity with Mitsubishi controls is beneficial. Ability to set up and program CNC mills in addition to lathes is an advantage. Experience working in a job shop environment with short-run, varied part orders. Comfort working with live tooling on CNC lathes. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to assess programming and understand code to troubleshoot issues. Work Environment This position operates on a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The facility is a new, modern building with a brand-new back section and an operation that is being revamped with new CNC machines and advanced equipment. The shop is very clean and temperature-controlled, providing a comfortable and organized work setting. The environment reflects a long-standing commitment to quality manufacturing, capacity expansion, and the use of state-of-the-art machinery and methods, supporting efficient and precise CNC machining work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Euclid, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
