The Manual Machinist 2 must accurately read and interpret measurements using a variety of precision tools. This role requires higher level of technical skills and experience than the Manual Machinist 1 and includes emerging leadership responsibilities. Job Duties and Responsibilities Ensure projects are completed accurately and meet GEM Equipment quality standards. Set up and change tooling as needed to support production requirements. Monitor machine fluid levels and replenish as necessary. Accurately complete all required documentation for assigned projects. Assist in training new employees as needed. Operate a forklift safely and in compliance with company protocols. Maintain a clean and organized work area at the end of each shift. Possess and maintain your own precision tools. Possess and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including: Steel-toed boots Safety glasses Perform other duties as assigned. Expectations Continuously seek to improve part quality and reduce machining time. Follow instructions accurately and demonstrate the ability to work independently. Consistently maintain high productivity while producing quality parts. Maintain a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and grow. Effectively multitask, including operating multiple machines when required. Communicate clearly and directly with supervisors regarding questions or concerns. Adhere to all safety guidelines and maintain a strong personal safety record. Ability to perform all of the tasks above in addition to trainee and Machinist 1 responsibilities. Maintain punctual, regular, and predictable attendance. Work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation. Respectfully take direction from manager. Vocational or technical training in Machining Technology, Precision Manufacturing, CNC/Manual Machine Operation, or a related trade; or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus but not required. Certifications in Forklift or OSHA 10 or 30 for safety awareness preferred. Skills Requirement Proficient in advanced blueprint reading and interpretation. Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers. Solid understanding of machining principles and the overall manufacturing process. Capable of operating manual lathes and mills effectively. Accurately measure and inspect parts to ensure they meet specified tolerances. Demonstrate proper use of machining tools and adherence to safety protocols. Experience 3+ years of experience working in a manual machinist role. 3-5 years of experience operating manual machine tools, including lathes and mills, in a manufacturing or job shop environment. Proven experience reading and interpreting complex blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions. Demonstrated ability to set up and operate manual machines independently, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling. Experience using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) to verify part accuracy and ensure tolerances are met. Familiarity with machining a variety of materials, including steels, aluminum, and other metals. Exposure to quality control processes and documentation (e.g., completing inspection reports or job travelers). Experience performing basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting minor equipment issues. Prior involvement in team-based manufacturing environments, collaborating with other machinists, engineers, or supervisors.
