Full Job Description Job Title:
CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description This role is responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes to machine flat and formed parts in accordance with inch and metric drawing specifications. The CNC Lathe Machinist serves as a technical resource for tooling and machining capabilities, supports continuous improvement efforts, and contributes to a collaborative, high-performing team environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes to machine flat and formed parts to precise inch and metric drawing specifications. Act as a technical resource on tooling selection, machining capabilities, and process improvements. Evaluate and justify new tooling and machining processes to enhance efficiency and quality. Communicate clearly about issues related to work orders, programming errors, material shortages, and other production concerns. Maintain a continuous focus on reducing material usage, labor time, and scrap. Perform minor maintenance activities as required by the preventive maintenance program. Participate in ongoing education and training, including ISO 9001, safety, blueprint reading, and teamwork. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to support safety and efficiency. Accurately record labor and production data for job tracking and reporting. Demonstrate sound judgment and effective decision-making in day-to-day operations. Take the lead on large projects from start to finish, ensuring quality and timely completion. Collaborate with engineering on part designs and manufacturability considerations. Provide input and recommendations on corrective actions to resolve production or quality issues. Document red-line changes and updates to drawings or processes as needed. Monitor line-side inventory and ensure adequate material availability for production. Engage in cross-functional teamwork with other departments to achieve shared objectives. Balance the needs of the organization with the needs of the customer when making decisions. Practice goal-directed thinking and problem solving in situations where no standard solution exists. Communicate effectively through clear, two-way dialogue, actively listening and clarifying information. Accept responsibility and accountability for work quality, productivity, and adherence to procedures. Work independently while meeting deadlines and managing workload under pressure. Perform other related duties as requested to support production and continuous improvement. Essential Skills Proven ability to set up and operate CNC lathes for machining flat and formed parts. Strong understanding of inch and metric drawing specifications and their application in machining. Hands-on experience with CNC machine setup, changeovers, editing, troubleshooting, and operation. Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and ability to work effectively as part of a tight-knit group. Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards. Ability to work well under pressure and consistently meet production deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze facts, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop solutions. Effective verbal communication skills, including clear speaking, attentive listening, and appropriate response to nonverbal cues. Willingness to accept responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcomes. Demonstrated good judgment and sound decision-making skills in a production environment. Comfort working on cross-functional teams with colleagues from other departments. Ability to balance organizational requirements with customer needs when making decisions. Willingness to participate in continued education and training, including ISO 9001, safety, blueprint reading, and teamwork. Experience acting as a technical resource for tooling and machining capabilities. Background in evaluating and implementing new tooling and machining processes. Experience leading larger projects from initiation through completion. Ability to document red-line changes and maintain accurate records. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
