CNC Machinist

SUMMARY :

The CNC Machinist sets up and operates CNC machines with minimal supervision to produce moderately complex parts. This role includes performing machine adjustments, basic program edits, quality checks, and interpreting blueprints and GD&T specifications to ensure parts meet tolerance requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

• Set up and operate CNC mills or lathes with minimal assistance.
• Read and interpret blueprints and job instructions.
• Perform tool changes and basic program edits at the machine control.
• Inspect parts using precision instruments and document results.
• Monitor tool wear and make machine offsets or adjustments as needed.
• Maintain quality standards and follow work instructions or routers.
• Troubleshoot minor machine or process issues independently.
• Participate in routine machine maintenance and daily checklist activities.

Knowledge Base:

• Understanding of G-code/M-code and basic program editing.
• Can read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Intermediate knowledge of materials and cutting tools.
• Understanding of feeds, speeds, and machine capabilities.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Skill Level:

• Perform setups on CNC mills and/or lathes.
• Edit CNC programs at the machine level (minor changes).
• Troubleshoot machining problems (tool wear, chatter, surface finish).
• Use precision inspection tools with moderate skill.
• Maintain tolerances consistently within ±0.001".
• Capable of running multiple machines with minimal supervision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

: Exposure to noise & dust; appropriate PPE must be worn. Standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive motion required for most of the shift.
