CNC Operator / Programmer (Machinist) Job Description This role focuses on setting up, operating, and programming CNC lathes and mills to produce precision machined parts from print to finished component. You will interpret engineering drawings, optimize machine performance, and ensure high-quality output in a clean, family-oriented machine shop. The position runs on a Monday-Thursday first shift schedule with significant opportunities for overtime. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC lathes and/or CNC mills, including live tooling, bar feeders, and sub-spindles. Program, adjust, and optimize CNC machine settings to produce precision parts to specification. Work from blueprint and engineering drawings to take parts from print to production when required. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements to ensure dimensional accuracy. Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments. Monitor machining operations and troubleshoot issues, making adjustments to improve efficiency and part quality. Set up machines for both large and small parts while maintaining tight tolerances. Essential Skills Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and/or CNC mills, including multi-axis equipment with live tooling and sub-spindles. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T requirements. Proficiency with CNC programming concepts, including familiarity with G-code and M-code. Experience with CNC controls, particularly Fanuc controls. Working knowledge of Haas CNC machines and their operation. Work Environment The role is based in a very tight-knit machine manufacturing shop of approximately 30-35 employees, operating primarily on a first shift schedule from Monday to Thursday (5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), with overtime opportunities available on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The facility is an extremely clean machine shop environment that emphasizes safety, organization, and pride in workmanship. You will work with CNC lathes and mills, including Haas equipment and Fanuc-controlled machines, along with precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers. The atmosphere is family-oriented and friendly, with a strong focus on teamwork, personality, and mutual support. Employees are expected to maintain a neat, professional appearance appropriate for a modern manufacturing setting while contributing to a cooperative, high-performance production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Reading, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
