Job Title:
Machinist Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC machines in a climate-controlled machine shop, working primarily with 3-axis mills and 2-axis lathes while receiving training on advanced 9-axis automated mill and lathe equipment. You will use a variety of power tools and measurement instruments, interpret blueprints, and ensure precision machining in a production environment. Responsibilities Operate and set up 3-axis CNC mills and 2-axis CNC lathes to produce precision components. Train on and learn to operate a 9-axis automated mill and lathe to support advanced machining operations. Use manual drills and power tools safely and effectively to support machining and secondary operations. Read and interpret engineering blueprints to determine machining requirements and specifications. Use measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures to verify part dimensions and tolerances. Perform CNC machine setup, including tooling selection, fixture installation, and workpiece alignment. Adjust machine settings and offsets using control systems such as Haas, Fanuc, Mazak, and similar CNC controls. Apply G-code and G&M codes to run CNC programs and ensure correct machining sequences. Utilize knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) to meet precision and quality standards. Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Maintain a clean and organized machine shop area and follow all safety procedures. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and resolve machining issues. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience operating and setting up CNC machines such as Haas, Fanuc, or Mazak. Proficiency operating 3-axis mills and 2-axis lathes in a production environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Experience using measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and tape measures. Ability to perform CNC setup, including tooling, workholding, and machine zeroing. Familiarity with CNC controls and programming concepts, including G-code and G&M codes. Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and its application in machining. Comfort working with manual drills and various power tools in a machine shop setting. Ability to work on vertical mills and milling machines with attention to detail and accuracy. Strong basic math and measurement skills to verify dimensions and tolerances. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with Haas, Fanuc, and Mazak CNC control systems. Exposure to Mastercam or similar CAM software for CNC programming. Background in CNC machining, CNC programming, and CNC setup in a machine shop environment. Experience working with tooling selection and optimization for milling and turning operations. Familiarity with axis controls on multi-axis machines, including 3-axis and higher configurations. Previous experience in a climate-controlled machine shop environment. Why Work Here? The role offers a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with little to no required overtime indicated. The setting emphasizes safety, organization, and consistent production in a modern machining facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
