CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description This role focuses on operating and setting up CNC lathes ranging from 2-axis to 5-axis in a clean, modern machine shop. You will independently set up machines, work with multiple control systems, interpret complex drawings, and ensure high-quality finishes on precision parts. Responsibilities Set up CNC lathe machines independently for production, including 2-axis through 5-axis equipment. Operate CNC lathes using primarily Fanuc controls, with additional exposure to Mazak and Okuma controls. Perform assembly and internal diameter (ID) work on higher-axis machines as required. Interpret and work from multiple drawings for a single product, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Use Mazak and Mazatrol controls to run and adjust machining operations as needed. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to poor or inconsistent surface finishes. Make minor program edits at the machine to improve part quality and process efficiency (no full programming required). Use measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and bore gauges to verify part dimensions. Conduct in-process inspections using appropriate inspection gauges to ensure parts meet specifications. Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings to set up and run jobs correctly. Maintain a safe and organized work area, following all safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment. Collaborate with team members and site leaders to meet production goals and quality standards. Adhere to established tools, best practices, and common systems used across the organization. Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance processes, quality, and efficiency. Essential Skills CNC lathe machining experience of at least 2-5 years. Hands-on experience with 2-axis up to 5-axis CNC lathe machining. Ability to independently set up CNC lathe machines (no programming required). Experience working with Fanuc controls on CNC lathes. Experience working with Mazak machines and Mazatrol controls. Understanding and interpretation of blueprints and technical drawings. Proficiency using measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, and bore gauges. Experience using inspection gauges to verify part quality. Ability to troubleshoot and correct bad surface finishes and make minor program edits. Exposure to and understanding of multiple drawings for a single product. High school diploma or GED.
Level II:
Ability to set up machines with 1-2 years of CNC lathe experience.
Level III:
Ability to set up and edit machines, with experience on 3-5 axis machines and 3-7 years of experience.
Level IV:
Ability to work on 5-axis machines and higher, with 10+ years of experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve machining and quality issues. Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise parts. Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts and in a loud environment. Comfort working with multiple control platforms, including Fanuc, Mazak, and Okuma. Willingness to follow established best practices, tools, and common systems across locations. Interest in continuous improvement and supporting ongoing process enhancements. Ability to collaborate with site leaders, engineers, and team members to implement solutions. Work Environment The role is based in a clean, air-conditioned machine shop environment designed for comfort and efficiency. You will work around moving mechanical parts, and the noise level is typically loud, requiring consistent use of hearing protection. Steel-toed safety shoes and safety glasses are required as part of the standard dress code and personal protective equipment. The position follows a second-shift schedule of four 10-hour shifts from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., with availability on Fridays as needed. The facility operates with established safety standards, real-time performance measurement, and a strong focus on quality, providing a professional and well-managed production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Settlement, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
