  • Mechanistic Computational Modelling Position Details Position Description The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Washington School of Medicine invites applications for an Acting Instructor position with an anticipated start date of December 16, 2026.
The successful candidate will be appointed full-time for a 12-month appointment. Acting Instructor appointments are annual and may be renewed based on performance and the availability of funding. This position is being offered at a salary range of $5,417 to $6,667 per month ($65,004
  • $80,004 per year), commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent project development, including the following: Lead the design and execution of computational biology projects, like mechanistic modeling of vascular-cellular physiology. Expected approaches include but not limited to mass‑action kinetic models, performing sensitivity and uncertainty analyses, and conducting rigorous statistical analysis of experimental and clinical datasets. The candidate should demonstrate broad knowledge of receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signaling (and related pathways) and be able to translate biological hypotheses into quantitative models that can be tested against data. They will play a leading role in intellectual development activities, independently drive key portions of research projects, and are expected to publish as first author in high‑impact, peer‑reviewed journals, in addition to serving as co‑author on collaborative publications, presentations, and reports.
Funding Contribution:
Identifies funding sources and contributes to developing new proposals. Candidates are expected to actively pursue independent research funding and build a long-term trajectory toward securing grants as PI or co-PI.
Mentoring:
Mentors students and junior researchers in the development of technical and professional skills. Qualifications Applicants for this Acting Instructor position must meet the following minimum qualifications: PhD degree in a related quantitative field (e.g., bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computational biology, biophysics, chemical engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or a closely related discipline), Expertise in receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signaling (and related pathways), Strong record of scientific writing with experience publishing as first author in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, and At least two years of postdoctoral experience in computational modeling of biological systems. This includes programming (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB), quantitative data analysis, and development and application of mechanistic, deterministic models.
