Full Job Description Job Title:
CNC Machinist - 1st Shift Job Description This role focuses on operating manual, NC, and CNC machining equipment to produce precision components to close tolerances and high-quality finish standards. You will handle frequent daily set-ups on mills and lathes, run and verify routine programs, perform in-process quality checks, and troubleshoot issues directly at the machine. The position is ideal for an experienced machinist who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving at the machine, and contributing to a clean, well-organized production environment on a flexible first shift. Responsibilities Operate manual, automatic, and semi-automatic NC machine tools and CNC machining equipment to produce parts to close tolerance and finish requirements, primarily on mills and lathes. Perform multiple daily set-ups (typically 1-3 per day), including loading tools, setting workholding, and establishing proper machine parameters. Run and verify routine CNC programs, ensuring correct tooling, offsets, and machining sequences before and during production. Troubleshoot machining issues at the machine, including adjusting offsets, modifying cutting parameters, and resolving minor mechanical or program-related problems. Measure parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments to confirm dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Perform regular in-process and final quality checks on parts and equipment, documenting findings as required. Monitor machine performance during production runs and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency. Interpret blueprints and work instructions to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and inspection criteria. Set up and run a variety of CNC mills and lathes, including equipment such as Kitamura, Doosan, and other similar machines. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow shop safety procedures and best practices at all times. Collaborate with team members and supervision to meet production schedules and continuously improve processes. Support occasional overtime needs when eligible, typically on Fridays or Saturdays, to meet customer and production demands. Why Work Here? Employees enjoy a family-oriented, laid-back culture with low turnover and a strong focus on long-term stability. The organization offers robust benefits, including 401(k) with matching, health, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, profit sharing, tuition reimbursement, professional development assistance, an employee assistance program, referral programs, and short- and long-term disability coverage. An extremely competitive ESOP program provides substantial additional value, with quarterly payouts that can effectively add several dollars to the hourly wage. The combination of strong benefits, financial incentives, and a supportive environment creates a workplace where employees can build a rewarding, long-term career. Work Environment This is a 1st shift position, typically working from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the ability to be very flexible on hours as needed. Overtime is minimal, and when available, eligibility generally begins after a couple of months, usually scheduled on Fridays or Saturdays. The shop environment has a family feel and a laid-back atmosphere, with low turnover and a strong emphasis on employee well-being. The facility is clean, well lit, and organized, with not a ton of heavy lifting required. Machinists work with a variety of CNC mills and lathes, including machines such as Kitamura and Doosan, along with standard precision measuring tools like calipers and micrometers. The environment supports consistent, precise work while maintaining comfort and safety for employees. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Middleton, WI.
