Job Description

Summary The Machinist is responsible for the layout, fabrication, repair, and assembly of precision components and equipment. This role supports plant maintenance by machining parts, rebuilding equipment, and ensuring critical components meet exact specifications to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. Essential Job Functions
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, sketches, and work orders to determine machining requirements and procedures.
  • Perform layout work and calculate dimensions, tolerances, tapers, and other specifications using shop math and reference materials.
  • Set up, operate, and adjust machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Machine parts to precise tolerances and finishes in accordance with specifications.
  • Select, grind, and maintain cutting tools based on material type and machining requirements.
  • Fabricate or modify jigs, fixtures, and tooling required for maintenance and production support.
  • Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify part accuracy and quality.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment and components as required.
  • Fit, align, and adjust machinery and equipment to close tolerances.
  • Perform machining and maintenance support work both in the shop and in the field as needed.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment safely to and from job sites within the facility.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to support equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and plant policies. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience as a machinist in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with manual machining equipment; CNC experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Basic math skills relevant to machining. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of machinery, materials, and cutting techniques.
  • Proficiency with machine shop equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and related tools.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently or direct others on assigned tasks when needed.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills. Working Conditions The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this job consistent with federal, state, and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift
  • Occasional below waist level work, climbing, carrying, reaching over or away from the body, reaching above the shoulder, push/pull, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Regular use of computer systems for inventory management, work orders, purchasing, and reporting
