Job Description

Machine Operator Dixie Supply is hiring for the new location in Sarland opening in August! We are looking for new talent who wants to be a part of our new team! This position will train at our Eight Mile Location in preparation for the Saraland Location opening. Dixie Supply / Baker Metal Works is dedicated to manufacturing a variety of high-quality metal roofing systems and stock trim items to meet customer needs. Our product range includes 5-panel profiles in 20 colors made from 29 or 26-gauge metal. Trim pieces are available in 26-gauge metal in all 20 colors and 10' lengths. We also provide custom pieces tailored to each project's requirements. Job Summary:
The Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating powered industrial equipment (sit-down/stand-up forklifts, loaders) to move heavy, bulky materials, while also setting up and operating machinery (saws, routers, grinders, drills) to process metal or lumber to specifications. This role includes loading/unloading trucks, managing inventory via scans, and ensuring a safe, clean work environment.
Core Responsibilities Forklift Operation:
Operate heavy-duty forklifts (18,000lb+ capacity frequently required in steel) to move structural steel, scrap metal, or timber. Load and unload flatbed trailers and containers.
Machine Operation:
Set up, adjust, and operate metal roll former machinery; custom trim machines to cut and shape materials to specifications.
Material Handling:
Transport raw materials to workstations and transfer finished products to staging areas.
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to strict OSHA regulations and company safety procedures, including wearing PPE (safety boots, safety gloves)
Maintenance & Quality Control:
Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and machines. Inspect finished parts/lumber for accuracy using tape measures or calipers.
Documentation:
Maintain inventory records, cut sheets, daily activity logs, and any required production documentation.
Requirements and Qualifications Certification:
Forklift Operator Certification will be issued on-site.
Experience:
1-2 years of experience operating heavy, high-capacity forklifts in a manufacturing or lumber environment.
Physical Strength:
Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing 50-100 lbs.
Technical Skills:
Ability to read blueprints, work orders, and use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers), previous experience a plus.
Stamina:
Ability to stand for long periods and work in extreme temperatures.
Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent

Loud, fast-paced factory setting with high-temperature variations.
Hazards:
Exposure to sparks, fumes, sharp metal, flying particles, and heavy moving equipment.

Frequent lifting, bending, and reaching.
