We've been in the personal care development and manufacturing industry since 1998. We are seeking an experienced Compounder. Summary The Compounder is responsible for preparing and blending raw materials to create personal care and over the counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products. The Compounder operates a variety of manufacturing and powered industrial equipment to blend approved formulas according to approved formula, established procedures, material specifications, safe working practices, SOPs, GMPs, and company standards and policies. The Compounder has the competency to blend single phase batches and the capacity to correctly and efficiently batch one to one to two jobs of basic complexity or one batch of intermediate complexity. Key Duties and Responsibilities Carry out all responsibilities in compliance with company policies, work procedures, and state, federal, and local laws. Fully complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and health and safety regulations Retrieve ingredients necessary to fulfill order, strictly following batch card. Handle raw materials prepared for each batch, lift items manually and/or with the aid of hand jacket, pallet jack, forklift, or other lifting equipment. Transfer bulk into totes when required. Move totes and/or transfer batches to specific areas for product manufacturing Recognize chemicals names; observe abnormal characteristics through quality inspection of product and ingredients Operate mixing tanks, holding tanks, pumps, Quadro blenders, powder dispersers, mills, homogenizers, and other ancillary equipment. Ensure equipment for an order or job is readily available and has been properly cleaned and sanitized prior to start. Assemble ancillary and miscellaneous equipment required specified bulk. Ensure proper operation of equipment. Troubleshoot minor sources of malfunction or escalate when necessary Maintain and clean equipment properly per applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), working instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Inspect equipment and work areas to ensure safety and cleanliness are in accordance with safety rules, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), work instructions, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform tasks with safety in mind for self and others Maintain clear and accurate documentation of each phase of production process on batch card Perform tasks with an understanding of the importance of increasing efficiency and decreasing waste and production costs. Identify manufacturing bottlenecks and offer suggestions on how to resolve them, including stepping in to perform any task in support of department goals Monitor the quality of output to identify and improve process to avoid the discard or remanufacture out-of-spec products for future runs. Immediately escalate quality issues to more senior Compounders or Manager for assistance with resolving technical problems with product or process Communicate relevant information at shift change to assure continued efficient production Reference Deacom, as needed, to view scheduled orders, print and/or update compounding schedule, adjust schedule, and/or close compounding jobs upon completion Maintain a positive and productive relationship with co-workers and others with whom the position may have contact Perform tasks with safety in mind for self and others. Use personal protective equipment as required Performs other duties as assigned Based on company needs, overtime is required Requirements To fulfill requirements of job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Minimum of one year experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the areas of cosmetic, food, and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing Ability to batch single-phase batches using cold processes. Good understanding of when to proceed in each step to ensure correct manufacturing of batch Basic understanding of dispersion and emulsification Basic understanding about chemicals and process parameters (temperature, pH, viscosity, and time) Good understanding of how to correctly and safety operate all tanks and all ancillary equipment Must be a team player and be able to work independently Ability to be self-sufficient by defining tasks for successful completion Ability to collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with others in an effective and professional manner Ability to apply judgement and understanding to carry out instruction provided in written, verbal, and diagram format Good understanding of the difference between acceptable and unacceptable products and recognition of variations in process and products Must have solid mathematical skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, dimensions, weights, convert English/Metric units, and apply concepts to practical situations Basic mechanical skills to disassemble and assemble equipment Must have good oral and written communication skills to interact with other personnel. Must have the ability to read, write, and speak in English Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack, drum lifter, and other material handling equipment Must be flexible to change shift and/or schedule due to changing business needs Other duties as assigned Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed primarily in an active manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, fragrances, dust, noise, varying temperatures and humidity, wet floors, moving mechanical equipment, and periods of cold and high heat temperatures Required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, and use hands and arms for extended periods. Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and assist with the safe movement of drums, totes, and pallets using appropriate material-handling equipment Required to wear all assigned PPE, which may include safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, gloves, hairnets, beard covers, lab coats or smocks, slip-resistant footwear, and respiratory protection where required The compensation range for this role is $19.00 - $26.50 per hour. Compensation is commensurate with level of knowledge, education, skills, and experience applicable to the position.
