Sunday PM/Overnights Role & Responsibilities:
Own the safe, efficient operation of the closed-loop butane extraction line inside the C1D1 booth. Direct the extraction assistants, keep columns moving, protect yield and quality, and ensure the department meets daily throughput and documentation goals. Step in on tools, training, or troubleshooting as needed to keep the line on pace. Primary Duties (including, but not limited to): 1) Extraction Operations (C1D1 Booth) Run the complete extraction cycle per SOPs (staging, loading, chilling, solvent wash, recovery, transfer, and handoff to post-processing). Control and monitor critical parameters (column temps, solvent temps/levels, recovery rates/temps/pressures, vacuum integrity, chiller setpoints, gas detection). Execute changeovers efficiently; minimize downtime between runs. Perform, document, and communicate in-process checks (clarity, color, expected yield windows, anomalies). 2) Team Leadership & Assignment Control Translate the Supervisor's schedule into clear booth assignments for Tech I/II (column prep, CRC cartridge pack, material staging, solvent tank swap, recovery watch, WIP transfers).
Pace the line:
anticipate bottlenecks and reassign assistants to keep the run cadence. Coach on-the-spot (tool use, cleanliness, safety habits, documentation discipline). 3) Production Targets & Line Health Drive the team to daily/shift throughput goals (e.g., ~200 lbs/shift when scheduled) without quality escapes. Track and call out blockers early (equipment, staffing, material readiness); propose an immediate workaround. Maintain a visible run board (columns completed, WIP, next-up) and communicate status during the shift. 4) Equipment Readiness & Preventative Maintenance Complete pre-flight and post-run checks (gaskets, clamps, screens, valves, PRVs, hoses, sight glasses). Keep chillers, pumps, and ancillary gear in spec; log issues and request maintenance promptly. Replace routine wear items and keep a small kit of critical spares organized at the booth. Verify maintenance sign-offs after work is performed; escalate gaps. 5) CRC / Filtration & Quality Controls Pack and verify CRC cartridges per recipe; document media lot/amounts. Confirm correct flow orientation, pre-wetting, and pressure control to prevent channeling. Record observations tied to quality (color drift, fines, pressure anomalies) and notify Supervisor/QA if rework may be needed. 6) Inventory, Solvent, & Consumables Monitor booth-level consumables (gaskets, clamps, filter papers, CRC media, liners) and request replenishment before depletion. Receive and verify solvent deliveries (quantity/condition), swap tanks safely, and maintain labels/UIDs where applicable. Keep an accurate running count of staged/frozen columns and report readiness for the next shift. 7) Documentation & Systems Complete extraction batch records in real time (times, temps, pressures, media usage, yields, variances). Enter required data into production trackers (e.g., Processing Master, ClickUp task notes if applicable). Ensure traceability from biomass lot to in-process and handoff containers; label everything legibly. 8) Safety & Compliance (C1D1) Enforce PPE and badge rules; maintain a clean, uncluttered booth with clear egress. Practice LOTO and follow emergency procedures for leaks, alarms, or power failures. Keep solvent containers properly labeled; maintain SDS access and know evacuation routes. Support internal compliance checks; correct findings immediately where possible. 9) Cross-Functional Handoffs Coordinate with Pre-Processing (20 columns staged/frozen) and Post-Processing (timely transfers, clean separations). Provide QA with quick clarifications during pre-review; submit required QC photos for the extraction step if applicable. 10) Housekeeping & "Other Duties" Own booth housekeeping: wipe-downs, ethanol rinse where allowed, floor dry/containment for spills, waste segregation. Jump in on training, small repairs, or documentation catch-up when the line is blocked Perform other duties as assigned.
