GKN Aerospace Careers Job Summary The Composite Operator role is responsible for carrying out the required standard activities of their assigned tasks, in full compliance to the Work Instruction and/or Standard Operating Procedure, and without compromise to their own, and colleagues, safety. Plan, lay-out and perform simple to complex manufacturing operations to fabricate, assemble or develop composite parts, assemblies, tools, fixtures, molds and other related accessories for the aerospace industry. Work on self-directed teams with minimal direct supervision, follow general instructions, sketches, sample parts, engineering instructions, specifications, operating procedures and recognized methods to perform a variety of standard, generally repetitive, manufacturing activities involved in the cleaning, preparation, fabrication and assembly operations to manufacture composite parts or assemblies for both production and developmental programs. The team member will be fully supported by their Team Leader (TL), who will enable their training, coaching and quickly respond to them if they find any off-standard / quality issues. They will be expected to actively identify safety concerns (Hazard identification), make problems immediately known to their TL (Pull the Andon), and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen). They will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a Great Place To Work through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working and open dialogue. Job Responsibilities Organize work areas, plan tasks with team, perform assigned work and meet or exceed cost, quality and schedule needs. Assure product quality. Train other employees, as needed, to perform assigned tasks. Capable of providing assistance to process problems, documenting issues effectively and following up on open issues. Use hand, power and machine tools to facilitate preparation, cleaning, processes of molds, equipment, parts, assemblies, or machinery. Equipment used may include hand knife, automated power or hand cutters, injection mold presses, cranes or other lifting devices, oven operations or shop equipment such as grinders, drills, fork lift or tow motors, etc. Follow standard and non-standard operating procedures to cut, shape, bond, lay-up, form, inject, cure, trim, drill and make simple repairs to composite parts. Record all fabrication or machine operating parameters accurately and legibly on parts where required, routing sheets, resident operation sheets, department documentation or terminals to ensure recording completion of work-in-process, inventories, schedules, labor expenditures, and/or other documentation where required. Use simple inspection devices such as protractors, calipers, micrometers, tapes, tension or weight scales, gages, etc. to ensure quality of operation processes performed. Will be required to inspect and certify own work to establish standards. Maintain a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with all internal, safety, environmental, customer and government regulations

Job Qualifications Education:

High School Diploma or GED required; proof of completion must be provided after offer acceptance.
