Job Description

Machine Operator Job Description This role offers an opportunity for a mechanically inclined Machine Operator to take full ownership of a production line from manufacturing through to packaging. You will operate computer-controlled manufacturing equipment, monitor production quality, document output and issues, and support a cohesive, efficient team environment while working 12-hour shifts in a high-volume manufacturing facility. Responsibilities Operate computer-based systems that control manufacturing machines and associated equipment. Take overall responsibility for the production line from initial production through to final packaging. Monitor production processes continuously to ensure consistent output, quality, and efficiency. Perform quality inspections, including pulling samples for the laboratory and verifying products meet agreed specifications. Record production data accurately, including quantities produced, downtime, and any problems encountered during the shift. Identify and communicate mechanical or process issues promptly to minimize disruptions and maintain productivity. Stack and organize finished products safely and efficiently in designated areas. Ensure goods are produced and packaged in the correct quantities and labeled or handled according to specifications. Support and promote teamwork on the line, helping to ensure that all team members work together harmoniously. Apply strong mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues and assist with adjustments as needed. Maintain good housekeeping standards in the production area, keeping equipment and workspaces clean and orderly. Follow Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and all site safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Stand, walk, and reach regularly throughout the shift while lifting 10 lbs regularly, 30 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 50 lbs. Participate fully in training during the probationary period and follow all instructions to achieve competence on the line. Essential Skills At least 1 year of machine operating experience in a production or similar environment. Proficiency in operating computer systems related to machine control and production monitoring. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how mechanical systems operate and respond to basic issues. Experience performing quality inspections and pulling samples for testing. Ability to monitor production processes and identify irregularities or potential problems. Capability to stand on your feet for 12-hour shifts and perform regular walking, reaching, and manual handling tasks. Ability to lift 10 lbs regularly, 30 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 50 lbs safely. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively on a production line. Efficiency and time-management skills to maintain steady output and meet production targets. Problem-solving skills to respond to production issues and escalate when necessary. Commitment to maintaining good housekeeping and following GMP guidelines and safety procedures. Basic math skills to support production counts, documentation, and troubleshooting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working as a machine operator in manufacturing, mechanical, or construction-related environments. Comfort working with mechanical equipment and tools in a high-volume production setting. Familiarity with bottle or packaging production processes is beneficial. Willingness to work contract-to-hire with an initial 6-month contract period. Openness to working rotating 12-hour shifts, including overnight hours. Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance during the probationary and ongoing employment periods. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work 12-hour rotating switch shifts on a 2-on, 2-off, 3-on, 3-off schedule. The environment follows Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines, and you will receive a copy of these requirements. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, long pants such as jeans or khakis, and a t-shirt. Ear plugs, hair nets, and other necessary protective items are provided. The work involves regular standing, walking, reaching, and lifting in a production area with active machinery, where safety, cleanliness, and adherence to procedures are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Iowa City, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00
