Extrusion machine operators provide support to extrusion manufacturing operations to ensure a consistent, standardized manufacturing process is established and followed. Extrusion operators are essential to the making of thermoplastic materials, a process in which extrusion machines heat the material so that it becomes moldable before letting it cool to a final specification. An extrusion operator is responsible for setting up and controlling extrusion machines and maintaining their cleanliness and efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Follow work orders per ISO standard work instructions, including: Verify correct orders/material are being run (style, color, stamp, labeling, packaging) Set up and operate equipment to produce multi-layer premium hose (inner, mid and cover layers over braided reinforcement) Perform operator-level equipment care and cleaning, and submit repairs to Maintenance through MaintainX; Lockout/Tagout and any work inside guarding are performed by authorized personnel only Ensure all changeovers are correct and efficient Ensure created products meet required specifications Disassemble, clean and reassemble dies, and change screen packs and spiral thread packs Unload completed reels, load empty reels, and label and stage finished reels Complete required quality checks and production records, and adjust the process to keep product within specification Obtain all necessary supplies and ensure all supplies are in place when needed Collaborate with coworkers to determine work allocation, tasks, and execution timelines Assist in the training of coworkers to operate and troubleshoot various manual and automated machines Proactively communicate key information to shift leads Scan and complete work orders, put away finished goods, and move and rotate stock (FIFO) using an RF scanner Stop production and notify the Supervisor of any non-conforming material, equipment fault, or unsafe condition Maintain a clean and organized workspace Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Current qualification to operate a forklift Ability to use an RF scanner Ability to read and understand work orders Able to learn and remember warehouse bin locations Self-directed and independent with strong communication skills Trained and authorized on extrusion equipment and Lockout/Tagout before independent operation Ability to wear and work in extrusion-area PPE for a full shift, including heat-resistant gloves, face shield or safety glasses, sleeves and cut-resistant gloves Ability to follow standard work instructions and to complete quality records accurately and legibly Preferred Qualifications Associate's degree in technical, manufacturing, industrial, or engineering technology field Previous experience with braiders, cutters, dies, pullers, accumulators and inline gauge measurement Familiarity with statistical process control Experience with multi-layer extrusion and with reading inline tube size and reel weight measurement systems Previous extrusion machine operation experience 0-1 year of relevant experience Physical Requirements Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Ability to stand for long periods of time Ability to lift, push, pull and move up to 55 lbs. Ability to use hoists, clamp trucks, and other designated lifting equipment for dies, reels and spiral thread packs Ability to work near hot surfaces and molten compound while wearing heat-resistant PPE Ability to work in both warm and cool environments Ability to use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects Ability to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet Ability to make fast, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists Ability to move arms and legs quickly Ability to use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without getting tired Ability to be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
