Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Machine Operator to support precision manufacturing of rifle barrels. This role involves operating multiple machines including gundrills, reamers, honing equipment, and CNC lathes. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, quality-focused, and capable of making real-time process adjustments to maintain tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities Operate and monitor:
Gundrilling machines for deep hole drilling Barrel reaming and honing equipment CNC lathes for barrel profiling/contouring Perform in-process inspections to ensure parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements Adjust machine offsets, feeds, speeds, and tooling to correct deviations and maintain spec Troubleshoot machining issues (tool wear, chatter, surface finish degradation, bore size variation, etc.) Maintain consistent bore geometry and finish across full barrel length Load/unload materials and manage workflow across multiple machines Accurately log production data and status updates in ERP/work order system Follow work instructions, routers, and quality control procedures Maintain a clean and organized work environment Assist with setup, changeovers, and basic machine maintenance Required Skills & Experience Experience in machining or manufacturing (firearms industry a plus) Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability Comfortable working with tight tolerances (±0.0005" or better) Ability to read and understand: Calipers, micrometers, bore gauges Basic prints and specifications Experience adjusting offsets and making process corrections on CNC or manual equipment Ability to stay focused during repetitive, precision work Basic computer skills (ERP or digital work order systems) Preferred Experience Gundrilling, reaming, or honing experience CNC lathe operation (Fanuc/Haas-type controls) Barrel manufacturing or firearms knowledge Surface finish and bore geometry control experience Understanding of cutting fluids, coolants, and material behavior (416 stainless, etc.) Work Environment & Physical Requirements Standing for extended periods Lifting up to 50 lbs Exposure to machining oils, coolant, and shop environment Fast-paced, production-focused setting with emphasis on quality What We're Looking For High attention to detail Self-motivated and disciplined Takes ownership of quality and output Willingness to learn and improve processes Reliable and consistent performer Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage (DOE) Opportunities for advancement in a growing precision manufacturing company Hands-on training in specialized barrel manufacturing processes
