Job Description

A Hydrovac Truck Operator safely excavates soil using high-pressure water and a powerful vacuum system instead of traditional digging equipment. The job is commonly used around underground utilities where damage prevention is critical. Primary Responsibilities Operate the hydrovac truck and all vacuum/excavation equipment. Locate and expose underground utilities such as gas lines, electric lines, fiber optic cables, water mains, and sewer lines. Perform utility daylighting and potholing before construction begins. Clean catch basins, manholes, lift stations, and other underground structures. Assist with sewer jetting, pipeline cleaning, and debris removal when equipped with combination units. Set up traffic control and maintain a safe work zone. Complete daily inspections, maintenance, and DOT compliance paperwork. Communicate with utility owners, contractors, and project supervisors. Ensure all work is performed safely without damaging existing infrastructure. Skills Required CDL (often Class B or Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsement). Knowledge of underground utility systems. Ability to read utility locates and construction plans. Strong safety awareness. Mechanical aptitude for maintaining equipment. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Duties include utility daylighting, potholing, trenching support, debris removal, sewer and stormwater system cleaning, equipment inspections, and maintaining compliance with all safety and DOT regulations. Must possess a valid CDL and demonstrate the ability to work independently while delivering professional service to contractors, municipalities, and utility companies. Pay:
$24.15 - $29.08 per hour
