Band Saw Machine Operator Job Description The Band Saw Machine Operator sets up and operates band saw equipment to cut metal tubing to precise specifications, using a metric tape measure and following detailed cut lists, blueprints, and work instructions. This role ensures that all materials meet quality standards, supports the welding and fabrication teams by preparing materials accurately and on time, and maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work area. Responsibilities Set up and operate band saw equipment to cut metal tubing according to specified measurements and tolerances. Read and interpret cut lists, blueprints, and work instructions to determine cutting requirements. Use a metric tape measure to mark, measure, and verify materials with a high level of accuracy. Inspect metal tubing and finished cuts for quality, accuracy, and defects before passing materials to the welding or fabrication team. Handle and organize materials safely, including loading and unloading metal tubing onto the saw and storage racks. Collaborate closely with the welding and fabrication teams to ensure materials are prepared correctly and delivered on schedule. Perform basic shop math to calculate lengths, quantities, and dimensions as required for cutting tasks. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and guidelines. Monitor band saw performance and report any mechanical issues or irregularities to the appropriate personnel. Follow all company policies, safety standards, and work instructions to support a safe and efficient manufacturing environment. Essential Skills Proficiency operating band saw equipment in a manufacturing or fabrication setting. Ability to read and use a metric tape measure accurately. Strong attention to detail and measurement precision. Ability to follow cut lists, blueprints, or work instructions accurately. Material handling skills and basic shop math capabilities. Strong work ethic and reliability, with consistent attendance and punctuality. Ability to lift materials and stand for extended periods during the shift. Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred. Work Environment This role operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The facility is kept clean and organized, with a strong emphasis on safety in all operations. The environment can be hot in the summer, but large doors remain open to improve airflow. All necessary tools for the job are provided, with the exception of welding gear, which you may need if you support welding-related tasks. You will spend most of your time on your feet, working around band saws, metal tubing, and other fabrication equipment in a production floor setting where safe work practices and appropriate attire are essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Caledonia, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
