1st Shift CNC / Set Up Cary, IL Full-TimeOn-Site$35 - $40 /hr Posted Yesterday 1st Shift CNC / Set Up Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented 1st Shift CNC Set Up Technician to join our manufacturing team. The primary purpose of this role is to set up, program, and operate CNC turning centers and mills to produce high-quality precision components on the first shift. The successful candidate will ensure machines are prepared correctly, perform necessary adjustments, maintain production schedules, and uphold safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Set up, program, and operate CNC lathes (turning) and milling machines to meet production schedules and part specifications. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM outputs to determine setup requirements and tooling layouts. Install and align workholding, fixtures, tooling, and cutting tools; perform trial cuts and make adjustments to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes. Verify parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM if available) and document inspection results. Troubleshoot machine issues, perform routine maintenance, and coordinate repairs with maintenance personnel to minimize downtime. Optimize cycle times, suggest process improvements, and implement best practices for efficiency and part quality. Maintain accurate setup sheets, programs, and production records; update CNC programs as needed using G-code or CAM software. Adhere to safety procedures, quality control standards, and company policies to maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Train and mentor junior operators or apprentices on setup procedures, machine operation, and quality expectations. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; technical training or CNC certificate preferred. 3+ years of hands-on experience setting up and running CNC turning centers and milling machines in a production environment. Proficiency with CNC programming and operation (G-code, FANUC, Haas, or similar controls) and familiarity with CAD/CAM software. Strong understanding of precision measurement, geometric tolerances (GD&T), and blueprint reading. Experience with tooling selection, workholding, fixturing, and setup optimization for turning and milling operations. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and program-related issues and perform routine preventive maintenance. Good math skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain production documentation and quality records. Ability to work 1st shift hours reliably, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for extended periods; commitment to safety and teamwork.
