Job Description

  • Job Title:
    Machine Operator
  • 2nd shift (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM) or 3rd shift (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
  • Job Description
  • This role operates manual and automated saws to cut metal bar, tube, plate, and structural material according to work orders in a heavy metals manufacturing environment.
You ensure accurate, high-quality cuts, perform inspections with measuring tools, and support production by safely handling and staging materials using a forklift. You contribute to a safety-focused, team-oriented operation with opportunities to learn new skills and potentially move into a permanent position.
  • Responsibilities
  • + Operate manual and automated saws to cut metal bar, tube, plate, and structural material according to work orders and specifications.
+ Set up saws by adjusting feeds and speeds and selecting appropriate blades based on material type and job requirements. + Monitor cutting operations continuously to ensure accuracy, proper surface finish, and dimensional compliance. + Perform in-process and final inspections using go/no-go gages, tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify quality. + Bundle finished material securely and place bundles on pallets using a forklift for safe storage or shipment. + Build pallets when needed to support efficient material handling and staging. + Perform routine maintenance on saws and related equipment, including blade changes, lubrication, and cleaning, to maintain optimal performance. + Record production data, inspection results, and material usage accurately in logs or digital systems. + Follow all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment requirements, and safe material-handling practices. + Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to move heavy metal products safely throughout the facility. + Collaborate with supervisors, quality inspectors, and material handlers to maintain workflow and resolve issues quickly. + Work scheduled 2nd or 3rd shift hours and support overtime as needed based on production demands. + Maintain a clean and organized work area in a heavy industrial, metals-focused environment.
  • Essential Skills
  • + Proven experience operating forklifts in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
+ Machine operating experience in a production or metals manufacturing setting. + Comfort working in a metals environment, including exposure to heat, noise, and heavy materials. + Basic machining experience, with a focus on saw cutting operations preferred. + Ability to operate and monitor saws and related machinery safely and efficiently. + Proficiency using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and go/no-go gages for in-process and final inspections. + Experience with general production tasks, including material handling and use of hand tools. + Ability to read and follow work orders and production instructions accurately. + Commitment to following safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements. + Physical ability to work in a heavy metals environment, including lifting, standing, and operating equipment for extended periods.

  • This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woodstock, IL.
  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.25/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your jobclassification and length of employment.
