Machine Operator Job Description This role involves operating multiple industrial machines in a large, high-volume manufacturing facility in the Eastern Indianapolis area. You will set up and run equipment, perform basic tooling changes, and use quality instruments to ensure all parts meet required specifications. The position requires standing for extended periods, working in a hot but clean environment, and successfully completing a comprehensive training program before moving to your permanent shift. Responsibilities Operate up to four industrial machines simultaneously, following established production procedures and safety guidelines. Use basic hand and power tools to change tooling and perform minor machine adjustments as needed. Use quality instruments, such as calipers and other measuring tools, to verify that parts meet quality specifications and tolerances. Perform repetitive manual lifting, pushing, and moving of materials throughout the department in a safe and efficient manner. Accurately document materials, batch numbers, and other production information in accordance with company guidelines. Read and interpret basic blueprints and work instructions to ensure correct machine setup and part production. Monitor machine performance, identify basic mechanical issues, and assist with troubleshooting to minimize downtime. Perform mechanical assembly and press or laser operation tasks as required by the production schedule. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following 5S and housekeeping standards. Participate fully in the structured training program, including lecture-based learning and hands-on machinery training, and apply learned skills on the production floor. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. Work overtime as needed, including 2- to 4-hour extensions at the end of shifts and occasional Saturdays with advance notice. Essential Skills At least 1 year of machine operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Consistent work history with 1 or more years per job, demonstrating reliability and commitment. Ability to withstand a hot work environment while maintaining focus on safety and quality. Ability to stand on your feet for 8 to 12 hours at a time and perform repetitive tasks. Basic mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn and operate various industrial machines. Experience using hand and power tools for tooling changes and basic adjustments. Ability to use quality instruments, such as calipers, to measure parts and verify specifications. Capability to perform repetitive manual lifting and pushing of materials safely. Willingness and ability to complete an extended training program that includes lecture-style and hands-on instruction. Dependable attendance and punctuality to support a structured shift schedule. Basic ability to read and follow written work instructions and production documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CNC or other automated machine operation. Experience in mechanical assembly or mechanical troubleshooting. Familiarity with press operation and laser operation in a production setting. Ability to read and understand basic blueprints. Strong mechanically inclined mindset with interest in learning new equipment and processes. Comfort working in a large-scale manufacturing facility and adapting to different departments as needed. Work Environment This position is based in a large, approximately 1 million square foot manufacturing facility in the Eastern Indianapolis region. The work environment is very hot depending on the department, but it is kept clean and well-organized. You will work around industrial machinery, including presses, lasers, and other automated equipment, and you will regularly use hand and power tools as well as measuring instruments such as calipers. The role requires standing for 8 to 12 hours and performing repetitive lifting and material handling tasks. Training takes place on 1st shift (6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday) for approximately 12 to 15 weeks at an on-site global training center, combining lecture-style instruction and hands-on machine training. After training, you will move to your assigned shift: 2nd shift (2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday) or 3rd shift (10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, Sunday through Thursday). Overtime is common and typically involves 2 to 4 additional hours at the end of scheduled shifts, with occasional Saturday work communicated in advance. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and comfort in the hot, high-production environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Greenfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43680.00 - $49920.00/yr.
