Job Description

Job Title:
Machine Operator Material Handler Job Description The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and productive operation of various machines including Granulator, Shredder, Color System, Wet Sorter System, and Extruder. This role also involves material handling and ensuring the maintenance of high-quality products. Responsibilities Understand, follow, and apply information from the Run Instruction Sheet (RIS). Set up, run, shut down, troubleshoot, clean, and perform general maintenance on machines. Take regular samples and systematically probe boxes as directed by RIS, reporting any discrepancies to lab personnel and the supervisor. Thoroughly clean boxes, lids, and skids prior to usage, determining the condition of packaging and disposing of any substandard material. Complete the Run Number Time Log at the end of each shift and update RIS as needed, communicating changes to the supervisor promptly. Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift. Properly complete logs for production ledgers and quality control, including inbound, outbound, rejects, and run. Complete Work in Process (WIP) or Ready for Sale (RFS) tags. Compute weights using correct gross, tare, and net figures, and record them accurately. Become a certified operator on both a forklift and aerial lift as needed, assisting with training new associates. Load and unload material, placing it into inventory locations using a forklift or pallet jack. Compute pounds per hour processed during runs and document various run conditions and productivity standards. Prepare boxes for material by placing labels in proper locations and removing extra labels. Participate in shift meetings and training sessions. Essential Skills Experience working in a manufacturing environment around machines. Ability to make mathematical computations such as adding, subtracting, and calculating percentages. Good handwriting skills for record-keeping purposes. Troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing setting. Sit-down forklift experience. Ability to stand for the duration of the shift, except during breaks. Capability to lift up to 65 lbs occasionally. Comfort with heights for aerial lift operations. Steel-toed or composite-toed shoes required. Availability to work mandated Saturdays if necessary. Additional Skills & Qualifications Manufacturing experience preferred but not required. Mechanical aptitude and machine operation skills. Experience in plastics manufacturing, injection molding, and extrusion. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment is a traditional manufacturing setting with large machines performing various tasks in plastics recycling. Employees are required to wear hearing and eye protection due to dust and noise. The facility can get hot in the summer and is comfortable in the winter. Workers are required to climb stairs or use aerial lifts for troubleshooting and maintenance. The dock workers primarily load and unload trucks, working along the outer wall of the facility. Dress code includes tight-fitting clothing, sleeveless shirts, steel or composite-toed shoes, secured long hair, and no jewelry. Cell phones and smartwatches are not allowed on the production floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
