Brake Press Operator Job Description The Brake Press Operator sets up and operates a variety of fabrication machines to support a busy manufacturing environment. This role focuses on transforming sheet metal to precise specifications and ensuring the internal manufacturing team receives accurate, high-quality components on time. Responsibilities Set up and operate various machines in the fabrication department, including presses, shears, notchers, and punch presses, to form sheet metal into finished parts. Read and interpret blueprints and production prints to determine machine settings, material requirements, and cut specifications. Adjust and set machine start and stop points to ensure accurate and efficient cutting and forming of metal sheets. Measure materials and finished parts accurately using a tape measure to verify dimensions against specifications. Use quality instruments such as micrometers and calipers to inspect fabricated sheet metal and confirm adherence to quality standards. Handle and move sheet metal and finished parts, consistently lifting 25-50 pounds as part of daily tasks. Use hand tools safely and effectively to assist with fabrication, adjustments, and minor equipment-related tasks. Monitor equipment during operation to identify issues, make basic adjustments, and maintain consistent production quality. Support the internal manufacturing team by ensuring they receive correctly fabricated components and supplies in a timely manner. Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating fabrication equipment and working on the production floor. Essential Skills Proven experience operating fabrication equipment such as presses or shears in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience working with sheet metal, including cutting, forming, or fabricating components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints or fabrication prints accurately. Proficient and accurate use of a tape measure for verifying dimensions and material sizes. Ability to consistently lift and move 25-50 pounds throughout the shift. Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively in a fabrication setting. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Reliable work habits and ability to work a full-time first-shift schedule. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating a variety of fabrication machines, including notchers and punch presses. Background in sheet metal fabrication or similar fabrication roles. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility focused on sheet metal fabrication. The role operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering consistent daytime hours. You will work on and around fabrication equipment such as presses, shears, notchers, punch presses, and quality instruments like micrometers and calipers. The work involves regular lifting of 25-50 pounds and standing for extended periods on the production floor. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel toe boots, and you will work in an environment that prioritizes safety, efficiency, and high-quality production standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
