Job Description

Fab Operator - 1st Shift Abilene, KS Land Pride, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing, is seeking a 1st Shift Fabrication Operator in our Abilene West facility. This position works Monday-Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus overtime on Fridays as required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up, tend and operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, roller, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, punch machines, laser cutting, CNC plasma, etc. that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures. Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements. Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, template, or computer program. Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto work piece. Position work piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade. Push button or depress pedal to activate machine. Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction. Measure work piece dimensions with varying measuring devices to determine accuracy of machine operation. Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece. Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces. Assist machine operators to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished work pieces. Monitor fabricating tasks and recommends quality improvement initiatives to the fabrication manager. Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment. Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
One to three years experience as a fabrication operator or similar Basic understanding of computer functions and various software Must be able to read prints and understand all press brake operations Must have strong math skills, including proficiency with fractions and decimals At Great Plains Manufacturing, our people make the difference, making our company a great place to work and grow.
