Flavor Compounding Technician Job Description The Flavor Compounding Technician accurately prepares, batches, and blends flavor and extract formulations according to approved formulas and production schedules in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures product quality, consistency, and compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards while working closely with production and quality teams in a small, family-oriented company. Responsibilities Accurately weigh, measure, and mix raw ingredients by following established formulas, batch sheets, and standard operating procedures. Operate mixing, blending, and batching equipment safely and efficiently to produce flavor and extract formulations. Verify ingredient identity, lot numbers, and quantities prior to use to maintain traceability and product integrity. Monitor batches during production to ensure consistency in texture, flavor, and appearance and make adjustments as needed. Submit in-process and finished product samples to Quality Control for testing and verification. Filter batches and ingredients as required to meet product specifications and quality standards. Perform in-process quality checks, document results accurately, and maintain complete batch records. Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and food safety guidelines at all times to support a safe and compliant operation. Maintain clean, sanitary, and organized work areas, including performing proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment. Report deviations, equipment issues, or quality concerns promptly to supervisors to support timely resolution. Assist with inventory tracking of raw materials and finished compounds, including counting, labeling, and organizing materials. Support production team members with related tasks and perform other duties as assigned to meet production and quality goals. Essential Skills High school diploma or
GED. 1-3
years of experience in flavor, food, or beverage manufacturing, compounding, or batching preferred. Experience blending, mixing, and compounding chemicals or food ingredients in a production setting. Ability to read and follow detailed formulas, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and batch records. Strong attention to detail and accuracy when weighing, measuring, and documenting ingredients and batches. Basic math skills for measurements, conversions, and batch calculations. Ability to operate mixing, blending, and batching equipment safely and effectively. Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and safety standards. Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and food safety regulations is a plus. Ability to stand for extended periods during production shifts. Ability to lift 50+ pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties. Ability to work in environments with temperature variations, noise, food ingredients, strong scents, and some exposure to odors and chemicals. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical or food science training is preferred and considered an asset. Experience in production environments involving blending, compounding, and distillation processes is beneficial. Familiarity with chemical handling in a food or flavor manufacturing context is an advantage. Strong sense of responsibility and reliability in following safety, quality, and regulatory procedures. Effective communication skills to coordinate with production and quality teams. Organizational skills to manage multiple batches, ingredients, and documentation accurately. Work Environment This role operates in a manufacturing environment within a very small company of approximately 14 people, where employees are treated like family and enjoy a close-knit, supportive culture. The facility focuses on creating flavors, resulting in strong scents and frequent exposure to food ingredients, odors, and some chemicals. Team members work around production equipment such as mixers, blenders, and batching systems, with typical manufacturing noise levels and temperature variations. The position requires standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50+ pounds as part of regular production activities. The work environment emphasizes Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, and food safety guidelines, with a strong focus on cleanliness, sanitation, and organized work areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belcamp, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
