[City], MI — in person Description R.J. Woodworking is a custom wood and plastics manufacturer. We take parts from rough lumber through machining, lamination, finishing, and assembly without them ever leaving the building. We're looking for someone to lead our CNC department. This is a hands-on lead role. You'll run our CNC routers yourself, and you'll also be the person who keeps the department moving and brings the other operators up to speed — a team of 3 to 5. Jobs aren't dedicated to a machine, so setup, tooling, and sequencing decisions are a big part of the job. We'll teach you our machines and our parts. What we can't teach is the instinct for reading a job and knowing how to attack it. If you pick up equipment quickly and people naturally come to you with questions, this is your seat. What you'll do Run and set up CNC routers Sequence jobs across machines to keep everything cutting Set tooling and offsets, build and dial in fixtures and vacuum hold-down Train and coach operators — setups, safe practice, what "good" looks like Own first-article checks and part quality coming out of the department Catch tool wear, program problems, and bottlenecks before they cost you a run Keep machines maintained and the department clean and organized What we're looking for CNC experience — router or mill; you should be able to walk up to an unfamiliar control and get productive fast Working knowledge of G-code, CAD software, and CAM software Confident reading prints and working to tolerance with calipers and squares Some leadership or crew-lead experience, formal or not Comfortable with the fixturing and problem-solving side, not just pressing cycle start Reliable, safety-minded, able to lift 50 lbs and stand through a shift What we offer Health, dental, and vision insurance 7 paid holidays 72 hours of paid time off Profit sharing Steady, year-round work — no seasonal layoffs Real ownership of a department, with room to change how it runs A shop where you'll see the whole process, not just one machine. And you'll be a Name, not just a number.
