Job Description

UTILITY OPERATOR
We are seeking qualified individuals for the position of Utility Operator to join our team at our Smith Metal Products plant- Center City MN location.
Responsibilities:
Must be capable of operating and running all assigned machines, workstations, and/or assembly operations on the production floor as noted on the production document after training and supervision Understand written and verbal work instructions, which may include proper operations of the machine, loading inserts into the mold, removing parts from the mold, proper packaging and pack out methods, grinding of sprues and secondary operations if necessary Understands quality criteria and identifying quality concerns, including familiarization with common visual defects and identifying problems with process Suggesting quality and process improvements (FABW) Using correct materials, equipment, and gauging Proper identification and labeling of product Relieve other press operators at break time if not operating a machine Inform material handlers when a hopper is low or other necessary supplies for the workstation are needed Rework when necessary Maintain a clean working environment and workstation Understands company quality policy and general safety rules for all employees Other related duties as assigned
Physical Responsibilities:
Routine lifting of 18 to 25 pounds from floor to table to floor approximately every 20 minutes. May be required to carry this weight approximately 3 feet in any direction. May be required to lift up to 10 pounds above shoulder level. While in a sitting position, may be required to perform repetitive bending from the wait to approximately 12" from the floor. Required to stand or sit up to 12 hours per day (depending on shift), with 10-to-15-minute breaks every two hours. Repetitive hand motions including squeezing and gripping motions up to 200 times per hour, arm motions while packing parts or operating secondary operation equipment at waist level to above shoulder level. Good vision is required for visual inspection of parts for dirt specs, color variations and swirls, and close detailed work.
