Job Description
Position Summary:
The Metal Forming Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring rolling mills, to include form rolling and tandem mills used in metal forming and/or finishing of metal strip or tape. This role ensures products meet required thickness, width, flatness, straightness, and surface quality specifications while maintaining efficiency and safety standards. Operators collaborate with team members, quality inspectors, engineering, and maintenance staff to achieve production goals in a clean, safe, and organized environment.Essential Job Duties:
- Set up and operate forming mills according to production orders and specifications.
- Load, thread, and align metal coils or tapes through the mills to achieve required reductions.
- Monitor and adjust rolling pressures, speeds, tension and skiving knives to ensure consistent product quality.
- Inspect in-process and finished materials using gauges, calipers, micrometers, and flatness measuring tools.
- Record production data, inspection results, and material usage in work orders and/or ERP systems.
- Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on mill equipment.
- Operate cranes, hoists, or forklifts to move coils, tapes, and finished products.
- Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas while following all company safety rules.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Responsible for roll changes, threading, and complete mill set-ups.
- Support troubleshooting and corrective actions to resolve equipment or process issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for quality, productivity, and safety.

(Environmental Health & Safety) management system processes.Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Prior experience in metals manufacturing, rolling mills, or metal forming operation preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to perform minor equipment adjustments and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, thickness gauges, flatness measuring devices).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements/Safety:
- Ability to work in hot, noisy, and industrial environments.
- Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. safely.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
