DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation and care of moderately complex motor equipment in towns and villages. Employees in this class are responsible for the routine maintenance of their vehicles and when not driving, do light−to−heavy physical labor. Work is performed under close supervision except for the more routine repetitive assignments. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Operates a dump truck, loader, backhoe, flatbed truck and plow wing in connection with the removal of snow, street cleaning and the transportation of various types of materials, tools,equipment and supplies.

On assignment may operate a bulldozer, grader, power shovel, roller or other heavy automotive equipment.

Checks working condition of equipment, gives routine service and maintenance.

Loads and unloads trucks.

Performs a variety of manual labor tasks, such as cleaning culverts, shoveling snow, painting and road maintenance work. Sidewalk, sewer and building maintenance.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Good knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the use of motor equipment and of the hazards and safety precautions involved in its operation.

Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of dump trucks, flatbed trucks, backhoe and various other types of motor equipment and related attachments.

Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.

Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance, make emergency repairs and assist in general and mechanical repair of the equipment when necessary.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) Year of work experience, or its part−time equivalent, in the operation of motor equipment used in construction, repair and maintenance of public works, building construction or in the operation of large trucks (other than delivery vans) or tractor trailers.

Note:

Possession of a valid Class A or Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles may be substituted for the six (6) months of work experience defined above.

SPECIAL NECESSARY

Requirement When operating a motor vehicle, possession of a valid New York State Non−CDL or CDL with appropriate endorsements for the class of vehicle being operated.

Experience:

Heavy Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Building Maintenance and Masonary Experience.

License:

CDL Class A or B (Required)
