Job Title:
CNC Setup Technician
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled CNC Setup Technician to join our precision manufacturing team. This role is critical in ensuring CNC machines are properly prepared, configured, and optimized for production. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in interpreting blueprints, selecting tooling, calibrating machine parameters, and training machine operators to ensure efficient and accurate part production.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Blueprint and Documentation Interpretation o Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders. o Understand part specifications including dimensions, tolerances, and required features. 2. Machine Setup o Select, install, and secure cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices. o Set up machine work coordinate systems (WCS) and tool offsets. o Calibrate machine parameters such as speed, feed, and depth of cut. 3. First-Piece Inspection & Test Runs o Perform test runs to verify setup accuracy and program integrity. o Inspect and measure the first machined part to ensure it meets specifications. 4. Operator Training o Train machine operators to perform production processes efficiently and accurately. o Provide guidance on best practices for tooling, part handling, and quality checks. 5. Maintenance & Troubleshooting o Conduct routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic maintenance. o Identify and correct minor mechanical or operational issues during setup or production. 6. Quality & Safety o Work closely with engineers and quality control to ensure part conformity. o Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following all safety protocols. 7. Documentation & Recordkeeping o Accurately document setup instructions, adjustments, and production parameters. o Track usage and condition of tooling, fixtures, and specialized gauges.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification preferred.
  • Extensive experience in CNC machine setup and operation.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling, machine calibration, and GD&T.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical documents.
  • Familiarity with CNC programming languages is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of machining processes, materials, and machine capabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery and moderate noise.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, lift tools or materials, and use hands to handle parts or equipment.
  • Visual acuity for reading prints and inspecting parts is essential.
