Job Description

Job Title:
R D Extrusion Technician | 1st Shift | $24.00-26.00 HR Job Description The R D Extrusion Technician sets up, operates, and troubleshoots extrusion equipment to support research, development, and light manufacturing of advanced polymer films. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with careful documentation, testing, and collaboration with the R D team in a clean, lab-like environment. The technician ensures safe, efficient operation of extrusion processes, supports film trials with new and existing materials, and helps evaluate final products against quality and performance standards. Responsibilities Start up extrusion machines and prepare production and trial runs at the beginning of each day. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant operations. Perform equipment and tooling setups on extrusion machines, including daily tooling changes as needed. Assist with running film trials using both new and existing materials to support research and development projects. Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues as they arise to minimize downtime and maintain product quality. Work closely with R D teammates during trials, heat-up processes, and other development activities. Disassemble, clean, and reassemble dies and tooling on a regular basis to maintain optimal equipment performance. Handle raw materials and finished goods, including moving and managing large film rolls safely. Perform inventory checks and maintain accurate handwritten documentation of materials, runs, and results. Support 5S activities by keeping work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety and quality standards. Help test and evaluate final film products using appropriate tools and methods to verify performance and quality. Participate in cross-training and support other R D projects and lab activities as needed. Operate a forklift safely to move materials and products, with recertification provided onsite if previously certified. Use basic math and measurement skills to verify dimensions, tolerances, and process parameters. Use Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, to record data and maintain electronic documentation. Adhere to safety, quality, and compliance standards at all times while working around machinery, tight spaces, and large materials. Essential Skills At least 2 years of machine operating and setup experience in a production, extrusion, or similar environment. Proven experience setting up machines, including tooling changes and adjustments. Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools for equipment setup, adjustment, and basic maintenance. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work safely around large rolls and materials. High attention to detail, especially when completing handwritten paperwork and documentation. Basic math and measurement skills to support accurate setup, inspection, and testing. Ability to follow safety, quality, and compliance standards consistently. Computer skills with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, for data entry and documentation. Ability to work in tight spaces and around large rolls and materials as required by the process. Strong problem-solving skills and organizational ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Experience with machine operation, extrusion machines, and related production equipment. Ability to perform equipment and tooling setups and adjustments with minimal supervision. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift experience, with previous certification preferred; onsite recertification is available. Experience with extrusion processes, extruders, or plastic film production. Experience in machine operation, inspection, testing, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing or R D environment. Familiarity with 5S or similar workplace organization and continuous improvement practices. Basic Microsoft SharePoint exposure is a plus. Comfort using hand tools, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement devices for testing and inspection. Ability to support cross-training and contribute to a collaborative R D team environment. Why Work Here? You will join a forward-looking organization focused on advanced materials and innovative film technologies, offering the opportunity to work on cutting-edge R D projects in a clean, well-structured environment. If eligible, you may access a comprehensive benefits package that can include medical, dental, and vision coverage, critical illness, accident, and hospital plans, and a 401(k) retirement plan with both pre-tax and post-tax contribution options. Additional potential benefits include voluntary life and AD&D insurance for you and your dependents, short- and long-term disability coverage, a Health Spending Account (HSA), transportation benefits, and an Employee Assistance Program. Depending on eligibility and job classification, you may also receive paid time off, vacation, or sick leave, supporting a balanced and sustainable work life. Benefits are subject to plan terms, specific elections, and may change over time, but the overall package is designed to support your health, financial security, and well-being while you grow your skills in a specialized R D setting. Work Environment The work environment is very clean, well lit, and temperature controlled, offering a lab-like atmosphere rather than a typical heavy manufacturing floor. The team runs and tests film in a setting that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and precision. You will work around extrusion equipment, large film rolls, and testing instruments, and you will be cross-trained in lab activities where you will use micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools to test films. The facility supports 5S practices and expects organized, safe work habits. Training hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and you will use standard office software alongside specialized production and testing equipment in a modern research and development environment.
