We are looking for a skilled and safety-oriented Metal Saw Operator to join our fabrication team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating various metal-cutting saws to cut raw metal stock (including steel, aluminum, and alloys) to precise specifications. The ideal candidate will have experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment and a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate metal-cutting saws such as band saws and chop saws to cut bar, tube, angle, and plate stock to specified lengths and tolerances. Review work orders, blueprints, or cut lists to determine job requirements. Measure and mark material before cutting to ensure accurate dimensions. Select appropriate saw blades and adjust machine settings (speed, feed rate, angles) based on material type and size. Load and secure metal stock on saws using clamps, vices, or fixtures. Inspect cut pieces to verify conformance to specifications using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and squares. Perform basic maintenance and blade changes to keep equipment in optimal condition. Monitor machine operation and address issues such as blade wear or material shifting. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE (gloves, goggles, steel-toe boots, etc.). Assist with material handling, inventory management, and other shop duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred. 1+ years of experience operating metal saws in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred. Strong understanding of measurement tools and basic math skills. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and cut sheets. Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Familiarity with safe handling of metal materials and shop equipment. Forklift operation experience or certification is a plus. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Work Environment:
Industrial/fabrication shop setting with exposure to noise, metal shavings, lubricants, and varying temperatures. Requires use of PPE and adherence to strict safety standards.
