Job Title:
Fusion Technician / Machine Operator Job Description This role focuses on fabricating HDPE fittings using fusion techniques within a climate-controlled production facility, with occasional work in an outdoor pipe yard. The Fusion Technician / Machine Operator operates fusion machines, saws, forklifts, and other equipment to cut, machine, and fuse HDPE pipe according to industry and company standards. The position combines hands-on mechanical work, quality inspection, and strict adherence to safety protocols, requiring both independent performance and close collaboration with team members to support overall production goals. Responsibilities Follow all safety protocols at all times and actively promote a strong culture of safety within the facility and pipe yard. Perform thorough pre-operation inspections on all assigned equipment before use, including fusion machines, saws, forklifts, telehandlers, and hand or power tools. Operate fusion machines, band saws, forklifts, telehandlers, and a variety of hand and power tools to support daily production activities. Cut, machine, and fuse HDPE pipe to produce fittings that meet industry specifications and internal company standards. Utilize fusion data recording devices to document fusion operations accurately and complete KPA reports as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both the indoor shop and the outdoor pipe yard. Inspect finished products to verify they meet established quality standards and specifications, and take corrective action when needed. Report equipment maintenance needs, malfunctions, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate production leadership. Support both indoor production tasks and occasional outdoor yard activities, adapting to changing work priorities and conditions. Perform additional duties as assigned to support production schedules and operational needs. Essential Skills Minimum 2 years of HDPE fusion or closely related experience preferred, ideally in plastics manufacturing, utility, or construction environments. Hands-on experience with fusion techniques and equipment used for HDPE piping and fittings. Experience in plastics, preferably with polyurethane products or plastics manufacturing processes. Utility or construction experience working with plastic piping systems, including installing joints, turns, and related components. Ability to operate fusion machines, band saws, forklifts, telehandlers, and a range of hand and power tools safely and efficiently. Proficiency in tape measure reading and accurate measurement for cutting, machining, and assembly tasks. Mechanical aptitude and practical experience with machine operation and basic mechanical troubleshooting. Experience with inspection and quality checks to ensure products meet established standards. Ability to use fusion data recording devices and complete required documentation such as KPA reports. Willingness to obtain McElroy fusion certification and maintain all required safety and fusion training certifications. Capability to work the specified schedule from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sunday to Friday, with flexibility for overtime and weekends as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in fusion work performed in the field is beneficial. Experience in pipe installation, particularly with plastic or HDPE piping systems. Exposure to polyurethane or plastics manufacturing environments. Experience with CNC equipment or automated machinery is an advantage. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative production team. Willingness to complete and maintain safety and fusion training courses and certifications. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is primarily based in a climate-controlled indoor production facility, providing a comfortable and consistent work setting for most daily tasks. You will occasionally work in an outdoor pipe yard where you may be exposed to varying weather conditions while handling HDPE pipe and related materials. The environment includes exposure to noise, dust, and fumes such as fuel and exhaust, and involves working around moving equipment including forklifts, telehandlers, and other machinery. The standard schedule runs from 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Sunday to Friday, with the expectation of working overtime and some weekends when production demand or backlog requires it. Safety procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, and adherence to operational guidelines are central to the day-to-day work experience. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Justin, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
