2nd and 3rd Job Description This role focuses on safely operating and setting up laser cutting machines to produce high-quality manufacturing products. You will perform laser cutting operations, conduct dimensional inspections, and carry out routine maintenance while working in a collaborative machine shop environment. Responsibilities Perform typical laser cutting operations for a variety of manufacturing products. Select and load proper cutting programs based on job requirements. Choose and install appropriate fixtures to support safe and accurate cutting. Establish proper stop locations and adjust the laser beam focal point to ensure precise cuts. Set up laser machines correctly for each cutting operation, including mechanical adjustments and tooling changes. Perform prescribed preventive maintenance on laser and related equipment as required. Conduct all dimensional inspections to verify parts meet specifications and quality standards. Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to supervision or appropriate personnel. Use hand tools, calipers, and other measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances. Operate related equipment such as press brake, punch press, shear press, turret machines, and CNC machines when needed, after appropriate training. Assist with mechanical assembly tasks as production needs require. Operate a forklift to move materials and finished products safely when required. Support general shop activities, including maintaining an organized and safe work area. Follow all safety procedures, including general safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, foreign object damage awareness, and quality system guidelines. Perform additional tasks as production needs require, including cross-training on other machines. Essential Skills At least 1 year of manufacturing experience. At least 1 year of laser operator experience. Ability to set up and operate laser cutting machines safely and efficiently. Ability to select and run appropriate cutting programs for different jobs. Skill in setting up machines, including mechanical adjustments and fixture selection. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Proficiency with hand tools and measuring devices such as calipers. Basic experience with CNC equipment and mill operations. Experience performing preventive maintenance on production machinery. Understanding of general safety practices in a manufacturing environment. Training or awareness in electrostatic discharge (ESD) practices. Training or awareness in foreign object damage (FOD) prevention. Awareness of and adherence to quality system requirements. Ability to detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions promptly. Capability to work safely around heavy industrial machinery in a machine shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience as a brake press operator. Experience as a punch press operator. Experience as a shear press operator. Experience as a turret machine operator. Experience as a CNC machine operator. Mechanical assembly experience. Forklift operation experience. Ability to cross-train on multiple machines and processes. Work Environment This position is based in a machine shop environment that utilizes heavy industrial machinery such as laser cutters, press brakes, punch presses, shear presses, turret machines, and CNC equipment. You will work alongside approximately 30 other employees in a structured and organized setting. The role typically involves full-time hours with overtime available, depending on production needs. The shop emphasizes safety and proper machine operation, and you will use tools such as hand tools, calipers, and other measuring devices regularly. The dress code requires steel toe boots to ensure safety around heavy equipment and materials. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mesquite, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
