Job Description Job Title:
Saw Operator Report to: Branch Manager Position Summary The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up and operating saw equipment to accurately cut metal and other products according to work orders and specified measurements. The Saw Operator must be able to read a tape measure, perform basic math, set stops and guides to the specified length, use measurement tools to ensure accuracy, identify defects or equipment issues, and maintain a clean and safe work area. Duties/Responsibilities Review work orders and gather the required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job Set up the saw machine and make adjustments for each job Set stops or guides to specified lengths Operate the saw machine safely and efficiently while monitoring for defects, equipment issues, or other problems Use measurement tools to verify cuts and ensure accuracy Inspect finished pieces for quality and report any discrepancies Help transport finished pieces to the designated area Maintain the saw and perform routine care and cleaning as required Maintain, organize, and clean the work area daily Notify the supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered Communicate and cooperate with supervisors and coworkers Follow quality service standards and comply with company procedures, rules, and regulations Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills/Abilities Ability to safely operate saw equipment used for cutting metal and related products Ability to read and understand work orders and job instructions Ability to read a tape measure and use measurement tools accurately Basic understanding of mathematics as it relates to measuring and cutting materials Ability to set stops and guides to specified lengths Ability to identify defects, discrepancies, and equipment issues Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Must participate in training for all new equipment required to perform the job Education and Experience Experience operating a band saw and/or chop saw; 1-3 years preferred Proven working experience in a warehouse or industrial setting Familiar with modern warehousing practices and methods Good organizational and time management skills Excellent communication skills Follow company procedures and employee manual Physical Requirements Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times Comfortable standing for long periods Must be able to climb, bend, walk, balance, and carry materials safely Able to work outdoors and around loud machinery Able to work on uneven surfaces Able to work in Texas weather i.e., heat, cold, dust, rain
