Machine Operator Job Description This role operates and sets up sheet metal brake presses and tube benders to form a variety of metal components while following strict safety standards. The Machine Operator reads and interprets part prints and technical drawings, selects appropriate tooling configurations with limited guidance, and uses measuring devices to ensure parts meet precise specifications in a large manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate sheet metal brake presses and tube benders to form various metal components of different sizes and metal types. Interpret part prints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine correct machine settings, tooling, and forming requirements. Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling configurations on brake presses and tube bending equipment with limited guidance. Use measuring devices such as tape measures and other precision tools to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet quality standards. Operate power tools and other equipment safely to support forming, bending, and related production tasks. Perform tube and pipe bending operations according to specifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency. Follow strict safety procedures and adhere to all applicable electrical and mechanical safety standards on the production floor. Inspect formed parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality, making adjustments to equipment as needed. Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are used and stored properly. Support production efficiency by working with precision and maintaining consistent output during B-shift operations. Lift materials and components up to 50 pounds as needed and handle them safely throughout the forming process. Essential Skills Experience in machine operation, specifically with sheet metal brake presses and tube bending equipment. Ability to read and interpret part prints, schematics, and technical drawings. Proficiency in using measuring devices such as tape measures and other precision tools. Ability to understand and configure different tooling setups on brake presses and tube benders with limited guidance. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision and efficiency in a production environment. Ability to follow strict safety procedures and standards in a manufacturing setting. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, walk, and stoop for extended periods in a plant environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1+ years of experience in panel wiring, electrical assembly, or a related field. Knowledge of pressure testing procedures, leak detection methods, and chiller systems is a plus. Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for electrical and mechanical work. Knowledge of electrical codes, wiring standards, and electrical safety procedures. Experience with PLC wiring and troubleshooting preferred, but not required. Ability to work effectively on a B-shift schedule (Friday-Sunday, 6:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.). Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a large, non-temperature-controlled plant environment. The position requires standing and walking for long periods, occasional stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds on a non-repetitive basis. The environment involves regular use of sheet metal brake presses, tube benders, pipe bending equipment, power tools, and various measuring devices, with an emphasis on safe operation and adherence to plant safety practices. Appropriate work attire suitable for a manufacturing and industrial setting is expected. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.53 - $26.14/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
