Job Description

Steel-Fab, Inc. is a local fabrication shop that specializes in Boeing Tooling. We are currently seeking a skilled and reliable Saw Operator to join our team. This position is responsible for cutting raw materials to specification using a variety of saws and equipment, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work from detailed blueprints, cut sheets, and work orders to determine material type, dimensions, and cutting sequences. Precision is essential, as your work directly impacts fit-up, weld quality, machining tolerances, and overall product integrity. This role requires a strong understanding of material properties, cutting speeds, blade selection, and proper fixturing to ensure efficiency while minimizing waste and material distortion. This position works closely with fabrication, machining, and quality teams to prioritize jobs, resolve issues, and maintain production flow. A successful candidate will be proactive in identifying inefficiencies, maintaining equipment in good working condition, and upholding a safe, organized work environment. 1-2 years previous experience operating saws in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred. Health Insurance (100% Paid for Employee, 50% paid for dependents) Dental Insurance (100% Paid for Employee, 50% paid for dependents) Vision Insurance (100% Paid for Employee, 50% paid for dependents) 401(k) with up to 6% company match (Fully Vested) Life/Long Term Disability/Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance Paid Time Off 10 Paid Holidays Per Year Roles & Responsibilities (Including but not limited to): Set up, adjust, and operate a variety of saws—including band saws, cold saws, and other cutting equipment—to accurately cut metal and non-metal materials according to production requirements Interpret blueprints, job orders, and work instructions to determine material specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and proper cutting methods Accurately measure and verify finished workpieces using precision tools (tape measures, calipers, squares, etc.) to ensure conformance with engineering specifications and quality standards Select, install, and align appropriate saw blades, fixtures, and attachments based on material type, thickness, and required cut quality Perform secondary finishing operations such as filing, grinding, and deburring to remove sharp edges and achieve required surface finishes Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment frequently to load, unload, transport, and stage raw materials and finished parts safely and efficiently throughout the facility Conduct routine equipment maintenance, including inspecting and replacing worn blades, adjusting blade tension, and maintaining drive components to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity Inspect completed parts for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and defects; identify and address any non-conformances in accordance with company quality procedures Maintain material identification and traceability throughout the cutting process, ensuring proper labeling and documentation. Follow all safety procedures and best practices when operating equipment, including proper forklift operation and material handling protocols. Keep work areas clean, organized, and aligned with 5S or lean manufacturing standards. Must work well under pressure and with changing priorities. Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands & Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to bend, stoop, lift and reach for the duration of shift. Ability to sit, stand, and walk for the duration of shift. Ability to use hands for duration of shift. Ability to keep up with productivity goals. Ability to read and comprehend manuals, shop drawings, schematics, and instructions. Knowledge of safe work practices. Knowledge of machines, tools and equipment. Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
