Job Description
Job Title:
Medical Assembler Job Description This role focuses on assembling and inspecting small, precision medical components used in products such as stents, catheters, leads, and implantable housings. You will work primarily in a cleanroom environment, using microscopes, small hand tools, and specialized equipment to build and verify high-quality parts. Over time, you will cross-train across multiple areas of the production process, gaining a broad skill set in medical device manufacturing while working from detailed written work instructions. Responsibilities Work in a cleanroom environment, following all gowning and safety procedures, including wearing smocks, booties, hair nets, beard nets when applicable, and safety glasses. Operate coil winding machines to wind and wrap metal coils around a spindle, creating components used in various medical products. Inspect and manipulate coils and wires, using microscopes approximately 30-50% of the day in certain coiling processes. Perform detailed visual inspection and deburring of molded parts as they come off molding machines, smoothing surfaces and removing excess material or metal. Use small hand tools such as pliers, files, knives/skivs, tweezers, and small wrenches to assemble, deburr, and finish medical components with and without a microscope. Follow travelers and written work instructions to complete assembly steps accurately and consistently across different production lines. Assemble very small parts, often about the size of a pen tip, while maintaining high levels of precision and attention to detail. Work on multiple cleanroom assembly lines (CEA areas), spending the majority of the day seated and using microscopes for a significant portion of the shift. Support laser welding operations after appropriate training by working with laser welding machines and microscopes to weld and finish very small medical components. Handle automated presses and stamping machines in the implantable housings area, loading materials, running parts through the process, and removing completed components. Inspect stamped or pressed parts for accuracy and quality, using microscopes as needed, and deburr or file down parts to remove excess material. Use production machines and equipment safely and efficiently to aid in the assembly and manufacturing of medical components and parts. Maintain flexibility in daily tasks, alternating between sitting and standing throughout the shift depending on the process and work area. Adhere to all safety, quality, and cleanliness standards, including the proper use of safety glasses and steel-toed shoe covers where required. Participate in cross-training across multiple lines and departments, adapting to new tasks and processes as business needs evolve. Contribute to a culture of safety and continuous improvement by following best practices, identifying potential issues, and supporting team stretching and wellness activities. Essential Skills 4-6+ months of experience in medical manufacturing or working with small parts in a similar production environment. 4-6+ months of experience using microscopes for inspection or assembly work. Demonstrated hand dexterity and fine motor skills suitable for handling very small components and performing detailed work. Comfort working in a cleanroom environment, including following gowning procedures and cleanliness standards. Ability to work with small hand tools such as tweezers, pliers, files, knives/skivs, and small wrenches for extended periods. Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours per shift, depending on the assigned process and area. Strong attention to detail and quality, especially when working with laser welding, microscopes, and precision assemblies. Ability to follow written work instructions and travelers accurately and consistently. Adaptability and openness to cross-training and rotating through multiple assembly lines and departments. Mechanical aptitude, especially for roles in the housings area working with automated presses and stamping machines. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with cleanroom assembly, laser welding, coil winding, medical device assembly, or microscope-based assembly is a plus. Comfort working with parts approximately the size of a pen tip and performing repetitive tasks with consistent quality. Openness to working with both mechanical equipment and delicate medical components in different parts of the facility. Willingness to work in both cleanroom and non-cleanroom environments as needed, including areas with more machinery and moderate noise. Interest in developing a valuable, transferable skill set in medical device manufacturing through structured training and cross-training. Why Work Here? You will join a stable, well-established, and employee-friendly organization that invests in long-term success and professional growth. The facility offers a very clean, modern workspace with a comfortable lunch and break area, including an on-site market for food, snacks, and drinks. Employees enjoy regular wellness-focused activities such as team stretching breaks and access to walking trails around the campus. The company provides frequent appreciation events, including weekly food trucks, monthly free ice cream, and a monthly safety drawing where employees demonstrating strong safety practices can earn a substantial reward. There is a strong focus on training and development in medical device manufacturing, with patient, structured training and a willingness to move people to different areas to help them succeed. The organization is financially stable, globally established, diverse, and known for being supportive of its workforce, offering a positive culture where people can build meaningful, long-term careers. Work Environment The work takes place in a very clean, well-maintained facility that includes both cleanroom and non-cleanroom production areas. Cleanroom roles require full gowning, including smocks, booties, hair nets, beard nets when applicable, and safety glasses, while still allowing for makeup and jewelry in accordance with safety guidelines. In some non-cleanroom areas, safety glasses are required at all times, and steel-toed shoe covers are provided due to the presence of automated presses and stamping machines. These areas are louder and have a light oil smell from the machinery, but most employees adjust quickly, and ear plugs are available if desired. Across the facility, employees alternate between sitting and standing, sometimes spending an entire shift on their feet and other times seated for most of the day, depending on the process and department. The environment is highly safety-focused and wellness-oriented, with an on-site wellness room, workout facility, ping pong table in the break room, and walking trails available during breaks. The dress code allows for flexibility, including the option to wear skirts as long as no skin is exposed (for example, with pants or leggings underneath), and head coverings such as hijabs are acceptable when worn in an athletic style and tucked in for safety. Overall, the workplace combines high standards of cleanliness and precision with a comfortable, supportive atmosphere designed to promote both productivity and well-being.
