Slitter Operator $25- $30/hr 2nd shift Job Description We are seeking a skilled and dependable Slitter Operator to work in a hot, dirty, and fast-paced steel manufacturing environment. This role goes beyond basic machine operation and requires full ownership of machine setup, precision cutting, and consistent product quality. You will work hands-on with slitter machines, tools, and materials to support efficient and accurate production. Responsibilities Perform complete setup of slitter machines, including tooling installation, knife changes, and adjustments to meet specified length and cut requirements. Measure and verify materials using appropriate measuring tools to ensure accuracy and adherence to quality standards. Change out tools and knives based on job specifications, material types, and production requirements. Monitor machine operation continuously to identify, diagnose, and troubleshoot issues that could affect production flow or product quality. Inspect materials and finished products to confirm they meet production and quality expectations. Label and organize finished products and materials to maintain clear identification and efficient workflow. Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment as needed to move, load, and unload steel and related materials. Use hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively during setup, adjustments, and maintenance tasks. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area in a physically demanding industrial environment. Collaborate closely with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and support continuous improvement. Follow all safety procedures, work orders, and production guidelines to ensure safe and efficient operations. Essential Skills Prior experience operating slitter machines in a steel or heavy industrial setting. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform full machine setup and adjustments. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, work orders, and technical documentation. Ability to use measuring tools accurately to verify material dimensions and tolerances. Experience with machine operation, including monitoring performance and troubleshooting issues. Comfort working in hot, dirty, and physically demanding conditions. Ability to lift and handle heavy materials safely in an industrial environment. Willingness to train on day shift for 3-4 weeks before transitioning to 3rd shift. Basic familiarity with hand tools and mechanical equipment used in machine setup and operation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience operating slitter machines specifically in steel manufacturing. Background in CNC or other automated machine operations. Knowledge of production processes and workflows in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience with inspection practices to ensure product quality and consistency. Ability to operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Comfort with labelling, organizing, and tracking materials throughout the production process. Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision in cutting and measurement. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a steel manufacturing facility where conditions reflect the environment: it is hot when the weather is hot and cold when the weather is cold, and the work can be dirty and physically demanding. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and building a positive culture, with structured training on day shift for 3-4 weeks before transitioning to 3rd shift operations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
