Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM About the Role We are seeking an experienced Molding Extrusion Technician II to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement of injection molding and plastic extrusion equipment within a manufacturing environment. This role requires strong technical expertise in plastics processing, equipment maintenance, process optimization, and problem-solving. The ideal candidate will independently perform preventive maintenance, diagnose equipment issues, implement corrective actions, and collaborate with engineering and production teams to maintain optimal equipment performance and minimize downtime. Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on injection molding and plastic extrusion equipment. Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls-related issues. Execute mold setups, insert changes, mold fitting, and shutoff adjustments. Perform extrusion line setup, startup, shutdown, cleaning, and process adjustments. Verify calibration status of manufacturing equipment and ensure proper operation following calibration. Design, build, and maintain specialized tools and fixtures to support equipment maintenance activities. Process Improvement & Reliability Analyze equipment and process performance data to identify improvement opportunities. Develop and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring equipment issues. Support engineering change implementation and update maintenance documentation accordingly. Participate in new equipment installations and ensure maintainability requirements are incorporated during deployment. Prepare recommendations for equipment repairs, upgrades, and replacement projects. Operational Support Respond quickly to equipment issues and prioritize activities to minimize production downtime. Coordinate activities with external contractors, mold makers, and service vendors. Support departmental KPIs, operational objectives, and continuous improvement initiatives. Assist with spare parts management, purchasing, and inventory control. Provide technical training and operational guidance to maintenance and production personnel. Compliance & Documentation Maintain accurate maintenance records and regulatory documentation. Follow all safety, quality, GMP, cleanroom, and operational procedures. Complete required training programs, including biohazard and safety-related training. Required QualificationsEducation High School Diploma or GED required. Experience Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in plastic processing, injection molding, or plastic extrusion manufacturing environments. Experience performing equipment maintenance, setup, troubleshooting, and repair in a manufacturing setting.
Technical Skills Strong knowledge of:
Injection molding processes and equipment Plastic extrusion processes and equipment Mold design, construction, and maintenance Extrusion die design and setup Polymer processing and material behavior Cleanroom manufacturing environments Automated manufacturing systems Ability to: Read and interpret complex mechanical and electrical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation. Perform mold maintenance, configuration changes, and process adjustments independently. Execute extrusion maintenance, cleaning, setup, and configuration activities. Apply advanced knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving Demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and resolving: Electrical issues Mechanical failures Hydraulic system problems Pneumatic system issues Industrial networking-related concerns Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions. Communication & Collaboration Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate across maintenance, engineering, quality, and production teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational and time management skills. Self-motivated, adaptable, and action-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset. Preferred Qualifications Technical certification, vocational training, or additional coursework in industrial maintenance, manufacturing technology, mechatronics, or related disciplines. Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments. Experience leading projects or mentoring technicians. Additional Responsibilities May be required to work alternate shifts or participate in on-call support as business needs dictate. May lead maintenance projects, audits, training activities, or technician work groups. May assist with hazardous waste handling in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations. May provide scheduling support, technical direction, and training for other technicians. Ability to safely operate lifting equipment including bridge cranes and jib cranes for handling molds and equipment. Physical Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing and cleanroom environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavy materials using carts or mechanized equipment. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces throughout the shift. Manual dexterity and visual acuity, including color differentiation. Ability to perform repetitive motions and use hand tools effectively. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during scheduled shifts.
