Job Title:
Splicer Job Description This role focuses on performing cable splicing and electronic upgrades for fiber and coax systems in the field, including testing, activation, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable service. You operate safely and efficiently, working both overhead and underground, often using equipment such as bucket trucks when directed. You manage your daily assignments independently, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure all work meets customer and industry standards. You may also support and train other splicers while working outdoors in varying weather conditions and handling physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy materials. Responsibilities Perform cable splicing and electronic upgrades on fiber and coax systems in the field. Conduct testing, activation, and troubleshooting of fiber and coax systems to ensure proper operation and quality standards. Complete overhead and underground splicing work, including work from bucket trucks when directed. Operate tools and equipment safely, including power tools and test equipment, in accordance with safety procedures and industry standards. Read and interpret blueprints, project designs, and diagrams to complete splicing assignments accurately. Maintain accurate production reports, as-built documentation, and material tracking for all assigned projects. Ensure all splicing activities meet customer specifications, industry codes, and quality expectations. Work independently to manage daily assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines. Support and occasionally train or oversee other splicers in proper splicing techniques and field procedures. Collaborate with project managers, field teams, and leadership to coordinate work, resolve issues, and support project goals. Install, splice, and maintain hardline cable in telecommunications and cable construction environments. Use RF meters, volt/ohm meters, and foreign voltage detectors to test and verify system performance and safety. Work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments, including residential and commercial sites. Lift and handle heavy materials, equipment, and cables as needed to complete field work. Support commercial and residential projects across multiple geographic areas as assigned. Essential Skills At least 2 years of splicing experience on hardline cable. Hands-on experience with coax or fiber splicing in telecommunications or cable environments. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project designs, and diagrams. Ability to distinguish colors accurately for cable identification and splicing. Proficiency using RF meters, volt/ohm meters, and foreign voltage detectors. Experience working with hardline cable in telecommunications, cable, or construction settings. Skilled in using power tools safely and effectively in the field. Telecommunications or cable field experience, including installation and construction work. Valid chauffeur's license or the ability to obtain one. High school diploma or GED. Ability to work independently in the field, managing daily assignments and documentation. Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments. Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and equipment safely. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certified pole climber credential or training. Outside plant (OSP) telecommunications construction experience. Experience balancing and documenting CATV systems. Experience supporting both commercial and residential telecommunications projects. Familiarity with working from bucket trucks and at heights. Strong attention to detail for accurate as-built documentation and material tracking. Effective communication skills for collaborating with project managers, field teams, and leadership. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a field-based role that supports commercial and residential telecommunications projects across Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. The environment involves working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and at different types of sites, including overhead and underground locations. You use company-provided tools and equipment, including power tools, RF meters, volt/ohm meters, foreign voltage detectors, and bucket trucks when directed. The work involves physical activity such as climbing, lifting heavy materials, and handling cables and equipment, all while following safety procedures and industry standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Macomb, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
