Job Description

General Statement of Duties:
Under the direction of the Torque and Test Supervisor and Manager, The Torque and Test Operator is responsible for the inspection, pressure testing and torquing of oilfield tubulars and equipment to ensure integrity, safety and compliance with industry standards. This role supports drilling and completion operations by verifying that all connections, valves and pressure-containing components meet operational specifications before deployment in the field and verify in field.
Supervision Duties:
None Summary of Duties:
(Duties may include, but are not limited to the following): Torque Operations
  • Operate hydraulic torque units to make up and break out connections on tubular goods (e.g., casing, tubing, drill pipe, BOP components).
  • Apply proper torque values according to manufacturer specifications and job requirements.
  • Monitor torque charts and ensure accurate documentation of torque values.
  • Inspect threads and connections for damage, wear or contamination prior to torquing. Pressure Testing
  • Perform hydrostatic pressure tests on valves, manifolds, wellhead equipment, frac iron and other pressure-containing components.
  • Set up and rig up test equipment including pumps, hoses, gauges and test bays.
  • Monitor pressure levels and hold periods to verify integrity.
  • Identify leaks, pressure drops, or failures and report findings immediately. Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of oilfield equipment.
  • Clean, prep and maintain tools and testing equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on torque and test units.
  • Ensure calibration of gauges and testing instruments is up to date. Documentation & Reporting Accurately record torque values, pressure test results and inspection data. Complete job tickets, test charts and digital logs. Communicate test results and equipment status to supervisors and clients. Field & Shop Support
  • W ork in both shop environments and field locations (rig sites, frac locations).
  • Assist with rig-up/rig-down operations.
  • Support other departments as needed during high workload periods.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Basic computer/data entry skills for reporting.
Working Conditions:
Ability to work outside in various and extreme weather conditions. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and bend to access equipment, rigs and vehicles. Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time, often 8+ hours per day. May require working at heights over 4 feet for extended periods of time. Exposure to chemicals, oils, grease, dust, fuel fumes or other irritants. Exposure to loud noise. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and handle physically demanding work. Must be able to perform essential physical demands of the position. Must wear all required PPE and follow all safety standards.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Driver's License required. Class A CDL preferred. 1-3 years of oilfield experience preferred (torque/pressure testing experience is a plus). Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and torque charts.
