Job Description

The Mold Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance on plastic injection molding tools to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and production efficiency. This role supports the Tooling Department by maintaining molds in proper working condition, identifying wear or potential issues early, and assisting with tooling repairs and improvements as needed. The position plays a critical role in reducing downtime, extending tool life, and maintaining product quality.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesPreventive MaintenancePerform scheduled preventive maintenance on plastic injection molding tools according to established maintenance schedules and procedures.

Disassemble, clean, inspect, lubricate, and reassemble molds and related tooling components.

Inspect tooling components for wear, damage, or performance concerns.

Maintain detailed maintenance records, including work performed, observations, and parts replaced.

Ensure molds are production-ready and meet quality standards before being returned to the production floor.

Tooling Support & RepairAssist Toolmakers and Tooling Technicians with mold repairs, troubleshooting, and modifications as needed.

Replace worn components such as springs, pins, bushings, inserts, and other tooling components.

Support root cause analysis of tooling-related production issues.

Assist with mold change preparation and tooling setup support when required.

Operational SupportMaintain cleanliness and organization of the tool room and mold storage areas.

Follow all safety procedures and proper handling practices for molds and tooling equipment.

Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling maintenance and reliability.

Communicate maintenance concerns or improvement opportunities to leadership.

Other DutiesSupport production and maintenance teams as needed to resolve tooling issues.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Operate a forklift.

Read and interpret blueprints.

Use basic machine tools, including lathes, mills, and grinders.

Job RequirementsSolid mathematical and analytical reasoning skills.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Basic measuring skills.

Experience or ability to use basic machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders.

Ability to learn on the job.

Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and tooling-related issues.

Physical DemandsOperate a forklift in a manufacturing environment where heavy steel molds are stored in exposed, tall, vertical racks.

Perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and whole-body movement, including lifting up to 45 lbs., balancing, stooping, and handling materials.

Ability to talk, hear, and see.

Ability to make precisely coordinated movements with the fingers of both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Walk and stand for extended periods, including up to 8 hours per day.

Work on concrete floors.

Wear steel-toed safety shoes and required personal protective equipment, such as ear plugs and gloves.
