Job Description
This Position Is Located Near Greeneville, TN. Full Relocation ProvidedThis Plant Superintendent role is responsible for leading and optimizing all manufacturing operations within a continuous-process chemical production facility. This role oversees production activities, workforce development, process safety, operational performance, and resource management to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Plant Superintendent works closely with maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to achieve production objectives while maintaining compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesChampion a culture of safety, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance throughout the facility.
Monitor and audit operations team performance, ensuring adherence to safety procedures, work practices, and production expectations.
Provide leadership and oversight during plant startup, shutdown, and critical operating events.
Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), incident investigations, and corrective actions.
Develop and execute weekly, monthly, and annual production plans to meet operational and business objectives.
Drive employee engagement, training, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve process efficiency, productivity, and waste reduction.
Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and commercial teams to support plant performance and continuous improvement efforts.
Plan and allocate labor, equipment, and materials to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and take corrective action to improve operational results.
Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to reduce unplanned downtime, improve equipment reliability, and control maintenance costs.
Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action programs.
Develop and manage operating budgets, including labor and material expenditures.
Review production data, inventories, shift reports, and plant logs to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Ensure operating procedures, training materials, and documentation remain accurate and up to date.
Oversee turnaround and shutdown planning activities to ensure work scopes, schedules, and resources are effectively managed.
Support leadership teams in establishing and achieving plant goals and operational initiatives.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Extensive experience within chemical manufacturing.
Strong understanding of chemical plant operations, production processes, and industrial equipment.
Experience managing production teams in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
Budget management and capital project experience preferred.
Knowledge of ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, fertilizer, explosives, or related chemical processes is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles and regulatory compliance requirements.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development capabilities.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Ability to manage confidential information professionally and with discretion.
