As a Plant Operator Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience in water treatment operations while working alongside experienced operators and technical professionals in a highly structured and safety-focused environment. This role offers the opportunity to build a long-term career in plant operations while contributing to essential infrastructure and sustainable resource management. Purpose of the role Play an integral role in supporting the safe and efficient operation of water treatment processes through directed training and practical, on-the-job experience. You will be responsible for learning the operational, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting activities necessary to support plant performance and reliability. This role is designed for individuals who are motivated to develop technical expertise, strengthen operational decision-making skills, and grow into an Operator I position. You will learn to monitor plant systems, analyze operational trends, document process data, and support maintenance activities while working collaboratively with plant operations teams. Core Responsibilities You will be responsible for: Participating in structured training programs and on-the-job learning activities related to plant operations and maintenance
Monitoring treatment processes and equipment using gauges, meters, instrumentation, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
Assisting with the analysis of operational trends and process data to support efficient plant performance
Collecting, documenting, and analyzing process samples using established laboratory procedures
Supporting daily operational activities to optimize treatment processes and equipment utilization
Reviewing plant operating procedures, identifying anomalies, and escalating concerns appropriately
Maintaining accurate and thorough operational logs, maintenance records, and documentation
Performing general maintenance duties including painting, cleaning, grounds maintenance, and housekeeping activities
Operating safely within a highly structured safety program and complying with all site safety requirements and procedures
Working rotating schedules that may include days, nights, weekends, and varying shift assignments
Supporting the plant team in maintaining a clean, safe, and reliable operating environment
Developing the technical knowledge and practical skills required to progress into an Operator I position
Obtaining an Arizona State Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification within two years following completion of on-the-job training #LI-JS4 What you'll bring to the role: A strong commitment to safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement
The ability to learn technical systems, operational processes, and maintenance procedures in a fast-paced industrial environment
Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to analyze information and make informed decisions
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate documentation and records
The ability to read and interpret operations and maintenance manuals, procedures, and technical instructions
A collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with plant operations and maintenance teams
The flexibility to work varying schedules including nights, weekends, and shift rotations
The ability to work independently while following established procedures and operational guidelines
Comfort working outdoors and in physically demanding industrial environments
Experience driving on rugged terrain and in varying weather conditions
A willingness to perform both operational and general maintenance tasks as required Required qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid Arizona driver's license with the ability to maintain driving eligibility
Ability to obtain an Arizona State Grade 2 Water Treatment Certification within the required timeframe Physical requirements include: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, grasp, and perform repetitive motions
Ability to work at heights and in or around water
