• Job Title: Radiological Control Technician
• Job Description
• We are seeking an experienced Radiological Control Technician to support radiation protection and environmental remediation activities in industrial and field settings.

In this role, you will perform radiological surveys, implement contamination control and ALARA principles, support radiation work permits and dosimetry programs, and help ensure regulatory compliance. You will contribute to field operations, waste characterization, emergency response, and radiological safety programs, helping to maintain a safe environment for personnel and the surrounding community.

• Responsibilities
• + Perform radiological surveys, including smear surveys and dose rate monitoring, to identify and quantify radiation and contamination levels in field and industrial environments.

+ Set up, operate, and maintain radiation detection instrumentation and monitoring equipment, including electronic dosimeters, air monitoring devices, and air sampling systems.

+ Implement and support Radiation Work Permits (RWPs), ensuring that radiological controls are properly defined, communicated, and followed by workers.

+ Apply ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure through planning, work practices, and engineering and administrative controls.

+ Conduct contamination control activities, including decontamination procedures, to prevent the spread of radioactive materials and maintain safe work areas.

+ Support radioactive waste management and waste characterization efforts, including sampling, documentation, and coordination of proper handling and disposal.

+ Participate in environmental remediation projects involving nuclear, DOE, D&D (decontamination and decommissioning), and waste management activities.

+ Assist with emergency response efforts related to radiological incidents, including field measurements, hazard assessment, and implementation of protective actions.

+ Ensure compliance with applicable NRC, DOE, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements, as well as site-specific radiological safety procedures and policies.

+ Perform gamma spectroscopy and other analytical activities as needed to characterize radiological conditions and materials.

+ Prepare clear technical reports and documentation related to radiological surveys, monitoring results, waste characterization, and regulatory compliance.

+ Work safely in outdoor, industrial, construction, confined space, and respiratory protection environments while adhering to all safety protocols.

• Essential Skills
• + At least 3 years of experience in radiological controls or radiation protection.

+ Hands-on experience with radiation detection instrumentation and monitoring equipment.

+ Practical experience performing radiological surveys, including smear surveys and dose rate monitoring.

+ Working knowledge of Radiation Work Permits (RWPs) and their implementation in the field.

+ Strong understanding of contamination control practices and ALARA principles.

+ Ability to work safely and effectively in industrial, construction, and field environments, including outdoor settings.

+ Experience with dosimetry programs, including the use of electronic dosimeters and dose tracking.

+ Familiarity with air monitoring and air sampling techniques for radiological hazards.

+ Knowledge of radiation safety practices and regulatory compliance requirements.

+ Ability to produce accurate technical reporting and documentation related to radiological work.

• Additional Skills & Qualifications
• + Experience as a Radiological Control Technician (RCT), Radiation Protection Technician (RPT), Health Physics Technician (HPT), Nuclear Technician, DOE Radiation Control Technician, or Environmental Remediation Technician.

+ DOE Core qualification or experience working under DOE radiation protection programs.

+ NRRPT certification (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists) is a plus.

+ HAZWOPER training or experience working under

HAZWOPER

requirements.

+ Experience in nuclear power, DOE facilities, decontamination and decommissioning (D&D), environmental remediation, or waste management projects.

+ Knowledge of radioactive waste management and waste characterization processes.

+ Experience with decontamination procedures and contamination control in field operations.

+ Familiarity with

NRC, DOE, OSHA

regulations and standards related to radiation safety and industrial work.

+ Experience working in confined space environments and using respiratory protection equipment.

+ Experience in emergency response for radiological or hazardous material incidents.

+ Ability to interpret gamma spectroscopy results and other radiological data for characterization purposes.

• Work Environment

The position may involve working in confined spaces and using respiratory protection, following strict safety protocols and regulatory requirements. Work is performed on a 4-day schedule with four 10-hour shifts from Monday through Thursday, and you will be expected to adhere to all site safety procedures and guidelines appropriate for field and industrial conditions.

• This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Francisco, CA.
• Pay and Benefits
• The pay range for this position is $42.

12 - $42.12/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
