Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
Provide general technical support, guidance and monitoring in radiation protection, to assist personnel in the safe performance of various work assignments. Check in and operate standard radiation detectors to include large area gas-flow proportional detectors, count-rate meters, dose rate meters, electronic dosimeters, swipe counters, liquid scintillation counters, gamma spectroscopy detectors, etc. Write, enforce, and provide job coverage for Radiation Work Permits (RWPs). Perform and document radiation scans, direct, and smear surveys. Provide radiological support in the process of packaging and shipping various types of samples including but not limited to soil and building material. Select proper instrumentation and use for various types of project needs. Establish and implement proper workplace controls (posting, marking, boundary, donning/doffing, egress design), radiation work permits, decontamination, personnel monitoring, equipment and material monitoring, health physics record keeping and reporting, sealed source controls, and ALARA. Provide support for waste management including characterization and disposal. Provide job coverage for various types of work including use with respirators, hazardous conditions, confined spaces, etc. Provide emergency response to incidents involving radiation (ex. Radiological Areas, injuries, spills). Operate, maintain and review measurement data and instrumentation to determine basic safety compliance with an established design or a standard procedure for air sample monitors. Understand and implement local, state and federal regulations. Conduct radworker and continued training for site personnel including other RCTs.
